However, Kumbhanda and Gandharva, although they are special categories of the first two desire gods, it is reasonable to classify them here as demonic categories. These demons possess karmic magical powers, and some enjoy possessions due to small good deeds in their previous lives, but they are unstable, have bad luck, are in unpleasant places, suffer harm, fear, hunger, and thirst, are dedicated to taking life and energy, and only bring harm to others, thus accumulating future suffering. Although they travel by means of magical powers, they appear to guard dangerous roads. Wherever they go with affection, they transfer their own feelings of impending death to those places, so they are harmed by spells and the lack of offerings. They themselves are constantly tormented by the feeling of the pain of impending death, so they have the evil intention of transferring the pain to other patients. Their own bodies, like burning houses, fire pits, and torches, are similar to temporary suffering, or they exist in various forms such as dogs and birds. The happiness and enjoyment of others appear as suffering to them, and the four inverted perceptions mentioned earlier also appear in common, so they are called suffering in the world of Yama. Now, in order to show the suffering of animals, the "Letter to a Friend" says: "In the place of birth of animals, there are also killings, bindings, beatings, and various kinds of suffering. Those who have abandoned peaceful virtues, they eat each other, which is extremely unbearable." Here, it is divided into general presentation and special suffering. The first is the thirty-four types mentioned in the "Satipatthana Sutra", which can be summarized into scattered and general situations. The scattered situations are also divided into those done by humans and non-humans. Generally speaking, merely the killing itself, the pain caused by the method of killing is also unimaginable, such as hunters trapping wild animals in corners, barbarian tribes skinning people alive, burning them with fire, or boiling them in iron pots and other containers for the sake of mercury and other substances and medicines. Even if one cannot bear to have a thorn stuck in oneself, one still regards the bodies of sentient beings as inanimate objects under the control of the three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion, thereby falling into hell.
