Furthermore, just by looking at them, even rivers would dry up. For pretas, in the hot summer season, the months are hot, and even the winter sun is cold. These trees become fruitless, and just by looking at them, rivers would dry up. So it is said. Like this, there is no opportunity to escape suffering, or being afflicted by uninterrupted feelings, people use months as the days and nights of pretas, spending five hundred years, or even fifteen thousand human years without dying, this is because of delighting in stinginess, that is, being bound by the strong rope of closely practicing the karma of miserliness. Enduring suffering without interruption, the rope of wrongly practiced karma, some beings whose bodies are firmly bound, will not die even after five thousand or ten thousand years. Thus, the pretas obtain various kinds of single suffering, what is the cause of that? The Victorious One said that it is because beings delight in stinginess, it is miserliness and not being a noble one. So it is said. Among them, a non-noble one should be understood as having afflictions. Also, here, the great scholar Chandragomin explains from the four inversions of the external obscurations of pretas, and the two differences of internal and food obscurations. Among them, the first aspect, the appearance of the mountain as inverted, as it is said in the 'Admonition to Students': Seasonal waves, wind rising, water scattering, mountain peaks become cool and moist, sandalwood trees grow green, ascending Mount Malaya. However, for them, the forest burns, the flames blaze and spread, many fallen trees make it rough and uneven. It means that the great river is scattered by the wind of the season, all the mountains become cool and moist, and there, only the dense forest of sandalwood trees, growing with a cool nature, like Mount Malaya, cannot be approached by the pain of heat. However, for the pretas, the dry forest ignites with flames, the blazing flames spread, and all the places are covered with fallen trees, appearing as a rough and hot touch. The appearance of the river as inverted is: Water treasure, huge waves, terrifying and high, the foam arising from it piles up like a mountain. However, for them, piles of gravel
