are also directed towards virtue, being in the state of Mahayana. The Ratnavali states: Without attachment, without hatred, without delusion, the actions arising from them are virtuous. It also says: The virtue of a bad motivation is a reflection of virtue; greed, hatred, and delusion; the actions arising from them are non-virtuous. Furthermore, the sutra says: With a good intention, placing two shoes on the Buddha's head, and similarly, having them removed by another, both will attain kingship. Therefore, it is known that the meaning is profound; the fear of rain damaging the Buddha image, and the fear of insects harming the Buddha image, both thoughts became the cause of attaining kingship. Here, the main focus is on illustrating the differences in the weight of virtue and non-virtue among beings in the desire realm. It is said: Constancy and attachment, without antidotal power, with qualities as the main factor, actions arising from the basis, these five are said to be the aspects of consciousness that closely apprehend the weight of virtue and vice. It is said that the heaviness of karma is caused by four differences in causes: application, intention, antidote, and basis. Among these, the first, the difference in application, is constancy, even if the action is small, it is done for a long time. For example, even for the purpose of causing a small harm to other beings, one harbors evil thoughts for a long time and incorporates them into one's heart. Second, the difference in intention is attachment; even if the actual time of committing the action is short, it is accompanied by intense afflictions and extreme joy, angrily, agitatedly, arrogantly, without diverting the mind to anything other than that action. For example, when King Ashoka was tormented by feelings of guilt, if he did not accomplish evil deeds such as killing at the beginning of the day, his mind would not be at peace, and he would not even eat. Third, the difference in antidote is that if the action committed relies on the nature of bodhicitta and the Three Jewels, and is suppressed by powerful antidotes such as repentance, it will become insignificant. If the action is not treated with an antidote and is allowed to develop arbitrarily, it will become powerful. Fourth, the basis is of two types: qualities

Possessing and benefiting. Possessing qualities are the Three Jewels, bodhisattvas who are one lifetime away from enlightenment, and those who rise from the extinction of individuals, and so on. Benefiting are parents, those who need to be repaid for their kindness, and those who become objects of compassion, and so on. Therefore, these five situations, whether doing good or bad deeds, are sure to produce results, and are the close takers who produce many results, therefore, the glorious Nāgārjuna said: Always with manifest attachment and without relatives, deeds arising from the basis of qualities being primary, good and non-good are the five great ones, therefore, strive to practice virtue. Thus, to explain a little about the plan and differences of these good and non-good deeds, the basis of everything is the unindicated ālaya, from which arise the mind and the consciousness of the five objects. The great demon of ignorance that pervades everything, holding the three afflictions, causes ups and downs in samsara. Thus, from the ālaya that has abandoned any distinction, the mind that distinguishes appears as the ālaya consciousness, although it is the maker of plans, it does not spread to the object. Then, great ignorance that clings to the object arises blindly, and the one who discerns is the mind that clings to the self. Then, the afflicted mind arises, negating and affirming, and the visual perception of seeing forms based on the eyes is considered as eye consciousness. The part of knowing sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations based on the ears, nose, tongue, and body is the consciousness of the five objects. These arise and develop the later consciousness from the previous part, so they are also called the place of birth, and this is also when the object and the mind with the object gather like the support and the supported, feeling happiness or suffering, etc., gathering from the perspective of feeling and knowing, it is called contact-dependent feeling. In short, the object that can be known, the faculty that can know, and the three gatherings of attention, all the actions aroused by the three poisons are non-virtuous. All that arises from motives free from the three poisons, such as love, is virtuous. However, the ten virtues and so on that are not grasped by the wisdom and compassion of the nature of the path, because they are grasped by the ground of ignorance, produce the happiness of gods and humans and then are exhausted.
