There are five kinds of gods. The first of these is called Akanistha, because it is above all things with form. Its body size is 16,000 yojanas, and its lifespan is also 16,000 intermediate kalpas. Below it is Sudarshana, so called because seeing each other generates great joy, or because of seeing pure views. Lifespan and body size are halved from each higher level to each lower level. Below it is Sudrisha, because the bliss of pacified body and mind is abundant. Below it is Avriha, because there is no suffering of desire in body and mind. Below it is Atapa, because compared to the four above, the body size is smaller, and there is less attachment to desire in appearance. These are called the five Pure Abodes. Above the Pure Abodes, there is a place called Greatly Adorned Akanistha, which is where the last existence Bodhisattvas, the great masters of the ten bhumis, attain Buddhahood. As it says in the Moon Secret Sutra: 'Having abandoned the pure abodes, it is called Akanistha, delightful, the truly enlightened ones attain enlightenment there.' The second is the abode of ordinary beings, the summit of the upper three of the four dhyana realms is Brihatphala, because it is made of great virtuous results corresponding to merit. The body size is five hundred yojanas, and the lifespan is also five hundred intermediate kalpas. Below it is Punyaja, because it is born from merit such as meditating on the four immeasurables. The reduction of body size and lifespan by half is the same as in the Pure Abodes. Below it is Anabhraka, because the dense clouds of light eliminate ordinary clouds. Below that, the highest of the three stacked abodes of the third dhyana is Shubhakritsna, because it is made from the generation of great roots of virtue. Below it is Apramanabha, because it is born from immeasurable roots of virtue. Below it is Parittashubha, because it arises from the fruit of virtuous conduct that is smaller than the one above. Below that, the highest of the three stacked abodes of the second dhyana is Abhasvara, because the body has radiant light. Below it is Apramanabha, because the body has immeasurable light.

So. Below that is the Lesser Light Heaven, because its light is less than the one above. Below that, above the three abodes of the first dhyana, is called the Great Brahma Heaven, because it has eliminated the faults of the desire realm, or because its body is larger than the lower realms? Or because the Great Brahma King does not move from his position, but can manifest in all the lower heavens? Below that is the Brahma Assistant Heaven, because it assists the Great Brahma King? Or because each of them has reciters in front of them? Or because they are attendants, so the Brahma assembly surrounds him? Or because they are helpful in accomplishing the activities of the Great Brahma King, they are also called the Near Helpers of Brahma. Below that is the Brahma Assembly Heaven, because they are not Brahma, they have abandoned sinful deeds, and practice the four immeasurables and other virtuous paths. They are born with palaces and clothes, appearing like rainbows in the sky. Because they are attached to the bliss of the samadhi of the upper realms, these beings with desire for existence do not need coarse food. Because there is no manifestation of suffering and coarse thoughts like those of the desire realm beings, there is no anger or strife. Because they have the obscurations of latent afflictions, they die and are reborn. Because they do not have autonomy over their place, they have the suffering of unfavorable circumstances. After that, the desire realm is divided into two: heavens and evil destinies. The heavens are further divided into gods and humans. The first of the gods is the six desire realms. Relying on the upper part of the sky is the Paranirmita-vasavartin Heaven, which is below the Brahma realm. Because they have power over the enjoyments created by others, they are called that. Because they can transform the wish-fulfilling jewel and their own transformations into the wealth that appears to others, they are called Paranirmita-vasavartin. The body is two and a half yojanas, which is seven hundred and fifty bows in height. The lifespan is one day and night of their own equals one thousand six hundred human years, and calculating the years and months, they can live sixteen thousand years. Below that is the Nirmanarati Heaven, who create countless hundreds of thousands of children from the light of their bodies and play joyfully, or because they have power over the enjoyments they create themselves, they are called that. The body is one and a quarter yojanas. The lifespan is half less than the one above, and it should be understood that this applies to the lower heavens as well. Below that is the Tushita Heaven, which is the holy son White Banner King.
