Having harvested rice from uncultivated land, people enjoyed the rice that grew naturally without cultivation, and thus were strong and healthy. The sexual organs of males and females, and the pathways for excrement and urine, became naturally apparent. To conceal these parts, people made lower garments and clothes from woven hemp and wool. The desire for intercourse arose, and they were born from the womb. When others saw them engaging in mutual affection, they felt ashamed and built houses, thus the name "house of shame" arose. To protect against the nectar-like rain falling from the sky, they covered the top with thatch, thus the earliest houses were known as thatched huts. Lazy people took rice from the rice fields and stored it. Everyone became accustomed to this, and due to the fault of hoarding, the rice became chaffy. Then, one person of bad nature said, "This rice field is mine," and thus demarcated boundaries, and everyone became entangled in jealousy and pride. Due to differences in thought, the amount of merit caused the harvest of the fields to be good or bad, so the poor could not survive and began to steal from and beg from the rich. Due to the force of karma, this situation also neared its end. One person of good nature distributed the rice equally to everyone, reducing their own share. Everyone was satisfied, and they enthroned him as king, thus there arose a king who was respected by many. Among the common people, some turned their minds away from their homes and focused on cleanliness, and thus were named Brahmins. Some remained at home, primarily honoring their parents, and were called the Jyeshtha lineage. Those who do not regard their father as their father, their mother as their mother, or their elders as elders, and those who engage in violent acts such as killing, stealing, and adultery, were judged as belonging to the outcaste or Chandalas. If someone was defiled by the mixing of castes, or if such behavior suddenly arose, they were also considered to belong to the outcaste, so in India, even to this day, great emphasis is placed on preserving one's caste. Even so, the Lokayata (materialists) claim that the four castes arose from the mouth of Brahma. Then, people plowed the mountains with wooden plows and planted a little millet, and thus the earliest grain, foxtail millet, appeared. Then, agricultural production expanded greatly, and villages, regions, royal palaces, and large cities developed. When human lifespan was eighty thousand years, most of Jambudvipa (the southern continent) had developed into cities as large as a crow spreading its wings.

Due to wealth, prosperity, happiness, good harvests, and a multitude of people, now in this final period of the five hundred years, even within a certain distance, towns and cities have become desolate, and all traces of what existed before have disappeared, no longer being prosperous. Declining from prosperity, with poor harvests, and few people and populations, with many evil realms and bardo states. Striving and exerting effort to achieve its cause, but the mind set on the path of liberation and omniscience is as rare as a star in the daytime. In between, it only recounts the sadness and impermanence of the times. Thus far, the formation of the heavenly realms has been described. So, how are the evil realms formed? They arise from accumulating the karma of the three poisons on the basis of the heavenly realms. In particular, due to the karma of hatred, one accumulates the karma of becoming the lord of hell, thus being born as Yama, the King of Death. Beneath him, the guardians of hell, such as Rakshasa faces, dogs, birds, copper, boiling water, piles of fire, and various types of weapons, appear as emanations of their respective karmic visions. The suffering that appears in this way is endured by sentient beings in hell, namely the Avici Hell, the Extremely Hot Hell, the Hot Hell, the Great Crying Hell, the Crying Hell, the Crushing Hell, the Black Line Hell, and the Reviving Hell. Near the north side of the eight hot hells, there are hells that crack like a great lotus, hells that crack like a lotus, hells that crack like an উৎপལ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Meaning), hells where teeth chatter, hells that make a "ཀྱི་ཧུད་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Meaning)" sound, hells that make an "ཨ་ཆུ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Meaning)" sound, hells where blisters burst, and hells with blisters, these eight cold hells, along with sixteen neighboring hells, are formed by the power of karma. As explained in the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," the Mahayana view holds that these hells are formed from habitual sinful thoughts. If, due to a misunderstanding, one believes that they do not actually exist, then if one says that oneself is also merely a karmic manifestation that does not actually exist, one falls into the fault of being unable to prove its non-existence. Those karmas accumulated through desire manifest as pretas (hungry ghosts) with external obscurations, pretas with internal obscurations, pretas with common karmic obscurations, and pretas with obstructed doorways. Those karmas accumulated through ignorance cause animals to devour each other, be exploited, and suffer from various forms of harm.
