That is truly ignorance. The actions of a child that correspond to that ignorance, virtuous actions, non-virtuous actions, and unwavering actions, are the formations conditioned by ignorance. As stated in the Root Wisdom Treatise: "Because ignorance obscures, there is rebirth. The three types of formations arise from this. It is karma that can enter into existence." Thus it is. Furthermore, whatever actions are performed, they correspond to whatever form they enter into, and the knowledge that arises from that is consciousness. In the sutras, it is said in the manner of showing the result by the cause: Consciousness is the aggregate of six consciousnesses. Thus it is said. The ripening consciousness does not show its own nature by its subtlety, but rather shows the result. That consciousness also, when entering its own realm of entry, enters into the part where sperm, blood, wind, and mind are combined, and by whatever order the formations make name and form, etc., manifest and accomplish, only that order of abandonment becomes the condition. Therefore, it is said that name and form are conditioned by consciousness, and up to feeling is conditioned by contact. Name and form are: at the moment of conception in the mother's womb, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness—these four non-form aggregates are name, and they combine with the various forms that have the four great elements as their cause. Among them, the four aggregates are name itself because they tend towards the object itself and lead to rebirth. The forms that have the four great elements as their cause are form itself because they produce changes such as heat and cold. That name and form gradually increase, and the state of gradually producing the eye and ear, etc., becomes the condition for the six sense bases, because that state is the complete accomplishment of the six sense bases. The six sense bases themselves are the meaning of the door through which mind and mental factors arise. When those six sense bases are fully matured, and the three of faculty, attention, and object are gathered and manifest, contact arises. For example, just as when the three of form, eye faculty, and eye consciousness are gathered, the gathering of the eye arises and there is contact, the three of name, form, and consciousness touch in the womb.

The six sense sources are merely the distinctions of the support for birth. Furthermore, just as the contact that experiences pleasure, etc., is, so too, feelings of pleasure, pain, and neither arise. Thus, the limb thrown by the formations internally, moistened by craving and grasping, becomes existence at the time of death. Then, according to the order in which it was thrown, it will also be born, and it will also age and die. Regarding this, the characteristic of craving is that craving increases from feeling, just as when the sweetness of sugarcane is felt, one craves its taste, or conversely, one desires that pleasant feelings not be separated, one desires that suffering be separated, and one does not desire either for what is neither. Moreover, in the sutra, it is shown as three types according to the distinctions enjoyed in desire, form, and formlessness. Grasping is close grasping, that is, the desire for desire, etc.

are the limbs that accomplish and the limbs that manifestly accomplish. Thus, it is taught by temporarily making the power of establishing two lifetimes. In the sutra, it says that ignorance and action are what draw the previous end. The manner of establishing the twelve limbs in three lifetimes: ignorance and action are the past lifetime; from consciousness to existence is the present lifetime; birth and aging are the future lifetime. Of these, the past lifetime is that the actions done due to the condition of ignorance, from the consciousness that connects the continuum in this lifetime, until feeling, the maturation is accomplished, and the craving, grasping, and existence that arise in the present lifetime generate future lifetimes and so on. The necessity of establishing three lifetimes is to dispel all ignorance about the past, future, and intermediate ends. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the dependent arising is established in three paths: ignorance, craving, and grasping are the path of afflictions; action and existence are the path of karma; the remaining limbs are the path of maturation. Thus, the teacher Great Intellect also taught in accordance with the scriptures. The way in which such dependent arising is completed from the perspective of continuity is that the Mind-Only school believes that one cycle of cause and effect is completed in two lifetimes, that is, in the previous lifetime, the six causes of ignorance, action, consciousness, craving, grasping, and existence are completed, and in this lifetime, the remaining six are completed in the manner of results. These are the internal dependent arising, and the external dependent arising is exemplified by the sprouting of a sprout relying on a seed, and so on. Since all of samsara and nirvana have been established as the nature of dependent arising, this is the preciousness of the Tathagata's words, and whoever knows this will easily and accurately understand the teacher's teachings. Thus, it is taught in accordance with the common treatises, as it is said: Monks, whoever knows this sapling of the sala tree knows dependent arising; whoever knows dependent arising knows the Dharma; whoever knows the Dharma knows the Buddha.
