Then, diligently meditating, he went to the charnel ground, and as soon as he saw the bones, he felt enlightened. 'Alas, where did these bones come from?' 'From aging and death.' 'Where did aging and death come from?' etc., and finally, he examined the twelve links of dependent origination in the forward order. Thinking, 'How can I be liberated from this?' Then, ignorance ceased, and the root of the cessation of the twelve links of dependent origination, up to aging and death, was severed. Based on the realization of half of the no-self, the realization of the paths such as the path of application arose naturally in his mindstream, and at the end of the path of meditation, he manifested the two wisdoms of knowing cessation and non-arising, and thus attained the state of Arhat. Like a rhinoceros horn (Pratyekabuddha), he meditates on all phenomena encompassed by the Four Noble Truths in the forward order of the twelve links of dependent origination, desiring to abandon all the subtle defilements of the three realms. That is, from the cause of ignorance arises action, from action arises consciousness, and thus he understands the cause and effect relationship from beginning to end, up to aging and death. Furthermore, the view of the self of the person and the external object of the self of phenomena, both part-containing and partless atoms, do not exist.

That is, the Vanquisher. Each is divided into two stages, entering the stream and abiding in the stream, hence they are known as the eight great persons or the four pairs and eight individuals. For Bodhisattvas, it is said that the ten bhumis, such as the Extremely Joyful, also have the four fruits of a renunciate, etc. This is the way the system of the Second Buddha is established. Furthermore, an Arhat refers to the fruit of possessing two wisdoms, namely, knowing the exhaustion of defilements and the non-arising of future rebirths. Thus, the Arhats of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, having passed into nirvana without remainder, abide in the realm of cessation. Although our own tradition considers them to be eternally unmoving, if measured by the Mahayana, then for the duration of time that they have accumulated merit, the activity of consciousness dissolves into quiescence. Thereafter, in pure lands such as Sukhavati, they take birth in the calyx of a lotus, and due to the power of the imprints of ignorance and subtle obscurations of knowledge, they remain with the lotus closed for seven years. Due to the power of the compassion of the Buddhas of that pure land,

It is the earth, life is also another, and the body is also another. These fourteen things, if asked, should not be answered, because they cannot calm their minds, so they should not be contemplated. As it says in the "Letter to a Friend": "The fourteen unrevealed things in the world, what are they that the Kinsman of the Sun has spoken of? One should not contemplate them, for they do not pacify this mind." So it is. Then, what should one contemplate so that all that is in accordance with the path to enlightenment will arise? These twelve links of dependent origination are to show that they are the treasury for truly understanding the reality of the Victorious One's true Dharma and for definitively establishing all philosophical views. Ignorance is the root of all conditioned phenomena; from it arise actions, consciousness, name and form. From it arise the six sense sources that grow. From it arise contact, from it arise feeling. From it arise craving, from craving arises grasping. From it arises becoming, from becoming arises birth. If there is birth, then there is lack of desire, and sorrow, aging, death, and other sufferings, therefore, the aggregate is very large. Because birth ceases, everything ceases. The profound cause and effect of dependent origination is the treasury of the Victorious One's true words. Having said that, actions are conditioned by ignorance, consciousness is conditioned by actions, name and form are conditioned by consciousness. Similarly, by linking them, aging is conditioned by birth, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, mental discomfort, and so on, all the great aggregates of suffering arise. As it says in the "Letter to a Friend": "Birth is not good, know that birth is a vessel of many harms." and so on. Thus, if the dependent origination that arises from the proper order is reversed, birth will cease. When birth ceases, this great aggregate of suffering, such as aging and death, will also cease. Likewise, when birth ceases, becoming ceases, and when ignorance ceases, actions cease as well. Ignorance is, as stated in the Sutras, not knowing the beginning, etc., but in essence, it is not knowing the truths of individual self-awareness wisdom.
