The state of falling into the abyss of helpless darkness. From the previous text: The celestial maiden, in the gently flowing stream, after playing with those who are temporarily liberated, is again swallowed by the endless, surging flood, and must endure the unbearable suffering of wounds. In the celestial garden, on the cushions spread with the leaves of the wish-fulfilling tree, after dwelling in comfort with the celestial maiden, again, the body is pierced by countless sharp weapons, and one must traverse a forest of leaves like sword blades. Immersed in the melodious sound of bells and the glittering strings of pearls, entering the immeasurable palace, and after traveling through the celestial realm, one will utterly fall into the boundless, immeasurable abyss of despairing darkness. Thus it is said. Now, in general, speaking of the fault of clinging to life, and the suffering of death and downfall up to the realm of Paranirmita-vasavartin. The celestial goddesses whose garments, cushions, and flowers have withered, disappear with the appearance of wiping their faces with sweat, weeping as they look at their relatives; such suffering of death cannot be experienced by ordinary people. Thus, although the gods do not have organs for experiencing pain, and therefore have no physical suffering, they are extremely distressed in their hearts upon seeing the five signs of death. As it is said: Thereafter, the son of the gods weeps sadly, crying out, "Alas, the gently flowing stream! Alas, the pond!" Thus it is. The five signs are: the decline from the splendor and perfection of the past, the deterioration of the body's color; dislike of one's own seat; the withering of flower garlands; the staining of clothes; and the sweating of the body. At this time, the celestial companion abandons, the wife sleeps with another, consciousness is confused, and the place of future birth is seen by the divine eye, causing fear and fainting. Friends and relatives call from afar, praying for rebirth as humans or gods, but those nearing death cannot approach. Therefore, even the enjoyment of heavenly bliss has an end, and the suffering is immeasurable, so suffering is greater than happiness, and one should not be attached. The Letter to a Friend says: Having thought thus, virtuous people should not be attached to the heavenly realm, which will eventually be exhausted. The color of the body becomes unsightly, and

The garland of flowers is unpleasant and old, the clothes are stained with dust, and on the body, there is sweat that was never there before. These are the five omens that herald death and transference from the heavens. Furthermore, the great luminaries, the sun and moon, which act as umbrellas over the earth of Mount Nyashing, will later be imprisoned in the darkness of a dark prison, and will attain the state of a great blind person. Thus, the great luminaries, the sun and moon, which, like umbrellas over the earth of Mount Nyashing, are able to dispel all the darkness of the four continents, when the light of their immeasurable palace, the basis, abandons the two sons of the gods who depend on it, they will be bound like prisoners in the darkness between each world, and will attain the state of a great blind person who cannot even see his own hands outstretched. As it is said in the Letter to a Friend: 'The sun and moon themselves attain, and illuminate all the worlds with their light, but then they go into the darkness of the night, and they cannot even see their own hands outstretched.' Thus. Here, the word 'themselves' is used because worldly people consider the basis and the dependent to be one. Thus, all contaminated pleasures are of the nature of suffering alone, but because of the fault of being proud and arrogant about them, one only experiences the suffering of samsara. As it is said in the Letter of Exhortation: 'In this world, which is terrified by the heap of suffering and fire, whoever is proud and arrogant, thinking of pleasure, that one is opening the mouth of Yama, that one is the seed of the tree of the next life.' Moreover, an example of considering suffering as pleasure is: When the hell beings are boiled in a large copper pot, and the heat is so intense that they can only raise their heads for a moment to breathe, they feel that it is the greatest pleasure to be struck by many angry iron hammers. Thus, the suffering of being cooked in the copper pot of hell is so intense that when they raise their heads to breathe, they think that it would be better to die, so they consider it a pleasure to have their heads struck with a hammer. This is a metaphor for how all beings are suffering until they attain Nirvana.
