In the explanation of (animals), the small ones are pecked at by the large ones, symbolizing the severance of virtuous deeds that are in accordance with decisive factors, and they devour each other. They are terrified only by the disturbances of heat and cold, hunger and thirst, and pitifully dwell in the dark intercontinental ocean. The suffering of the lurking animals living in the four great bodies of water is also unbearable. The second suffering is as previously stated: Some are killed for pearls, wool, bones, meat, and skin. Helpless other animals are kicked, beaten by hand, whipped, and hooked to be used as servants. For example, fish that die for pearls, elephants that die for bones, deer, goats, and sheep that die for meat, and beasts that die for skin. Horses and the like are helplessly used by kicking, buffalo and the like are used by beating with hands, donkeys and the like are used by whipping, and elephants and the like are used by hooking. They suffer alive merely to be subjected to others, like being imprisoned in a dark prison. Similarly, the nagas also suffer from the changes of day and night, and morning and evening. For example, in the morning they are in a state of happiness, but in the afternoon they are tormented by many sufferings such as heat and cold, hunger and thirst, and mental confusion. The more wealth they have, the more suffering they generate. In some places where nagas live, rain like gravel falls. They suffer from being abandoned by everyone and not being accepted by the group, as well as the fear of garudas. Moreover, the miraculously born garudas eat all four types of nagas, the egg-born eat their own kind, the womb-born eat the former two, and the moisture-born eat the other three except for the miraculously born. There is also the fear of mantras, universal ignorance, and uncertain lifespan and body size. For example, the dragon kings and others can live for a kalpa, but their lower bodies cannot surpass the ocean, and their upper bodies experience the thirty-three heavens, and they can hear the Dharma from the Buddha. Some can only live for a day, or even less. The causes and effects of these are stated in the verses of the *Smaranasthana Sutra*: "Desire leads to ignorance, swans, pigeons, and the like, and the birthplace of those who are greedy like donkeys."

Clouds and the like are places of birth. By holding onto anger, one is born as a snake. Pride and conceit turn into a lion. Excessive arrogance. Is the place of birth for dogs and donkeys. Stinginess, jealousy, and so on. Due to faults, sentient beings die and become monkeys. Talkative, arrogant, and boastful. Unstable nature, born as a hawk. Killing, binding, and stinginess. Cause sentient beings to become cows, dogs, and so on. Becoming unruly is due to karma. Miserliness and sin are born as ugliness. People with anger and stinginess. After death, they become flesh-eaters. Born as tigers, monkeys, foxes, and bears. Vultures, jackals, and so on are born. People who are unruly, frowning, and giving. Are born as dragons with great magical powers. Giving, but with anger and pride. Become the great powerful ones who fly in the sky. One's own body, speech, and mind. Whatever sinful deeds are done. Therefore, one is born as an animal. Therefore, even small evils should not be done. Thus it is said. Thus, the suffering of the three lower realms is unbearable. If one thinks that going to the happy realms of the heavens is only happiness, and indulges in desire, it is also unreasonable. Because desire is the proximate cause of all suffering, and from it, it is connected to existence and birth. The nature of birth, even if the position is high, is like a sudden burst of light in a small place, full of waves of suffering, and contrary to the path of liberation. Emitting unbearable noise, therefore, this body, which is now complete with all leisure and endowments, is more excellent than the gods, and like a dam that destroys harmful water flow, it suddenly disappears, and again experiences the suffering of connecting in existence, therefore, one should contemplate the only method of stopping birth. Therefore, if one cannot stop the light of birth and the suffering of. The waves roar, even if the body dam is more excellent than the gods. It will wander in the desolate wilderness, devoid of stability. Thus it is said, the nature of each suffering is gradually explained from the upper realms: the formless meditative indeterminate karma. After exhaustion, the aggregates arise in the next life. The karma of the previous meditation in the form realm is exhausted. Falling to the lower realm, experiencing the suffering of change. Thus, in the upper two realms, although there are no coarse sufferings such as the suffering of suffering.
