Eight kinds. The lamp of liberation is extinguished, far from the Dharma. As it says, being too attached to wealth, possessions, and relatives, having a bad character that cannot cultivate good conduct, like a poisonous snake, no matter how much one hears or sees the faults of the lower realms and samsara, one can never generate renunciation, having no faith even the size of a sesame seed to open the door of the Dharma, the three doors of body, speech, and mind cannot be subdued, spending time only with sinful actions, not caring at all about the noble Dharma, its qualities, and virtuous deeds, like a dog seeing a temple, even if entering the Buddhist teachings, destroying the Pratimoksha vows and the Bodhisattva vows, or having received the four empowerments and despising the guru and Vajra brothers, etc., breaking the vows. If one does not carefully study these two sets of eight situations and does not adopt or abandon them, then merely becoming a human being is only slightly free, and it is difficult to become a leisure and endowment conducive to practicing the Dharma. In particular, most people who follow the Dharma or whose behavior is reversed are very far from the Dharma and turn their backs on the path of liberation. The Nirvana Sutra says: Good son, after the Tathagata has completely passed into Nirvana, there will be internal strife and the destruction of the country. In that evil age, due to the calamity of famine, most people will become monks and shave their heads, and they will drive away the monks' discipline, rituals, merits, and perfect conduct. Also, in the Supreme Samadhi Sutra, it says: From five hundred to eight hundred years, my attendants will wear the clothes of householders, raise cattle, sheep, cats, donkeys, and horses, and store a lot of grain, working and eating by themselves, and also raising male and female servants. At that time, one out of a thousand will attain the four fruits of a Shramana. From eight hundred to one thousand years, my attendants will learn sinful Dharma, befriend kings, princes, ministers, and patrons, and even deceive each other with letters, plowing and digging fields, storing a lot of grain fodder, gold, silver, and the seven precious jewels, eating meat and drinking alcohol, wearing fancy clothes like prostitutes.

For example, "enticing monks and nuns" and "engaging in singing and dancing," etc. After a thousand years, the situation will worsen, and my close attendants, although wearing monastic robes, will be like hanging flags on trees, without any splendor. Even if seen by laypeople, they will not be respected and will become like butchers. Therefore, do not be born in the eight states without leisure, nor become the sixteen similar situations. Even if you temporarily become like that, rely on the holy guru and profound instructions to transform your mind. In this time when you can transform your mind, diligently spend your days and nights. In short, to summarize: In places where sins and sufferings rage like storms, amidst weariness and fear, accumulating turbid merit, the eight states of no leisure where one is narrow-minded towards the Dharma, constantly contemplate them and make your leisure meaningful. This is the advice. Third, recognizing the nature of leisure and endowment, there are two parts: explaining the essence as "leisure" and explaining the distinguishing characteristic as "endowment." First, as for "leisure": Like this, the twenty-four states of no leisure separate body and mind, freeing one from busyness, therefore it is "leisure." The body as a support, and the mind also achieves the correct meaning, therefore it is "endowment." In particular, the unsurpassable leisure and endowment of the Great Vehicle, in the Akashagarbha Sutra, it says: "Bhagavan, how should one view leisure and endowment?" The Buddha said: "The mind disturbed by conceptual thoughts and scattered is called busyness. The mind calmed from conceptual thoughts and abiding in its own nature is called leisure. 'Endowment' is knowing the nature of the mind, and the mind achieving the correct meaning, therefore it is called 'endowment.'" Here, for the moment, quoting from the Ksitigarbha Sutra: "There are ten kinds of beings who are difficult to obtain a human body in samsara. What are the ten? Not creating roots of virtue, not accumulating merit, following evil friends, connecting with afflictions, not fearing the suffering of future lives, the mind disturbed by afflictions, always straying from the Dharma due to laziness and distraction, even entering the Buddha's teachings not practicing accordingly, following wrong views, and holding wrong views firmly." As the sutra says, having escaped from the karmic consequences of these bad causes and effects, now
