From the guidance of occurrence, remembering the virtues of the Three Jewels is the opening of the door to generate faith. As stated in the Sutra Requested by the Ocean, "Faith has no attachment to the door of the assembly, it abandons leisure and is the sole supreme of faith, faith is the cause of attaining the rank of the victorious. Those who have faith in such a Dharma are rare among the assemblies of ordinary beings." Also, as stated in the *Byang ba*, "Faith is the desire to listen to the sacred Dharma, to believe in karma and its ripening, to rely on it, and to please it." Thus, the four causes for generating faith must always rely on one's own mindstream. Without faith, even if one strives for refuge and supplications a million times, it is merely acting out of ignorance, becoming a cause for empty talk. Even if one is skilled in establishing the aspects of refuge with great wisdom, it is merely acting out of desire, merely acting out of hatred. Therefore, in the *Ten Dharmas* and the *Heap of Jewels*, it is consistently said, "For those without faith, white dharmas will not arise, just as a seed burned by fire cannot produce a green sprout." Thus. The benefit is, as stated in the *Lamp of the Three Jewels Sutra*, "Having faith in the Buddhas and the Dharma, having faith in the conduct of the Buddha's sons, having faith in unsurpassed Bodhi, then the minds of great beings will arise." Thus it is said. Therefore, in order to explain the virtues of the Three Jewels, the virtues of the Buddhas are limitless. By abandoning the two obscurations, they have destroyed the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge. They possess eyes and clairvoyance, ten powers, the doors of dharani, ten strengths, four fearlessnesses, and individual wisdom. The eighteen unshared perfections are complete Buddhas, possessing the Dharma body with all kinds of excellence, displaying perfect enjoyment to the retinue of the ten bhumis. Regarding this, from the perspective of the meaning of the name, externally explaining the distinctions of the virtues of recollecting the Buddha, thus the name Bhagavan is widely known in the world because he has subdued desire and so on, or because he has subdued the hosts of demons who strive to obstruct him while dwelling at the Bodhi tree, therefore he is called Subduer. Because he possesses excellent kalpas and freedom and so on, he is called Possessor. Thus possessing, yet he has transcended all the faults of existence such as craving and grasping. The nature of things

Because the way things exist is realized and understood as it is, it is called Tathagata. Or, because what is said is exactly as it is, and there is no change, it is also called Tathagata. Arhat means having destroyed the enemy forces of afflictions. How is it destroyed? It is the ultimate attainment of the four fruits of a renunciate, which will be explained later. Perfectly Complete Buddha means having abandoned all the afflictions connected by habitual tendencies for hundreds of thousands of noble ones, thereby attaining perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus, Tathagata means having fully awakened to all dharmas correctly and without inversion, therefore being a Perfectly Complete Buddha. As it is said in the "Seventy Verses on Refuge": 'Awakening from the sleep of ignorance, and also expanding the mind with wisdom, the Buddha blossoms like the petals of a lotus.' Because of possessing knowledge and feet, such as discipline and samadhi, one possesses knowledge and feet. Because one has gone to the state of no sorrow, beauty, and non-retrogression, one is the Sugata. Knower of the World means fully knowing the establishment of the sentient world in the form of the twelve links of dependent origination. Similarly, one knows without error all the formation, destruction, abiding, emptiness, measure, and nature of the vessel world. In one aspect, it should be known that fully knowing the good terminology of the world is contrary to knowing the world of the nature and deceit of ordinary beings. One who can be tamed is a person. Since they are tamed and guided, it is the tamer of men. Since one is superior to the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, one is unsurpassed, that is, one should know that the noble path has been attained. Gods and humans are special beings of higher realms and are also vessels of the noble path, so teaching them without inversion is the teacher of gods and humans. Because the suchness is understood, it is called Buddha Bhagavan, which is using the nature of no-self as an honorific and omitting the end of the sentence. If the distinction of qualities is explained according to the way of existence of the self-nature, then...
