When coughing or similar situations occur, cover your mouth, and when hearing teachings, fold your hands and respectfully reply, "I will follow your instructions," which also comes from there. Say, "I receive the teachings and will follow them." Fold your hands and accept what is said. Similarly, protect the guru's belongings as you would your own life, and whatever you do, inform the guru and ask for permission. If you are not nearby, whatever you do, think that it is with the guru's permission. Understand the meaning of "difficult to mention the name," and do not call the guru by their given name. If it is necessary to say it, add a related praise such as "mentioning the name for the sake of meaning," which is also the view in the Gongdü (Intentional Gathering Sutra). Never mention the name, Call them "Holy Guru Spiritual Friend," and add a respectful term at the end of the name. In particular, the root of the lower vehicle is bestowing vows and teaching the Dharma; the root of the higher vehicle is empowerment and consecration, etc., which are the activities of the Khenpo and Vajra Master, and it is not permissible to do them without permission. The Wheel of Accomplishment Play Sutra says, "Do not gather disciples, and teaching the Dharma, empowerment, consecration, and fire offerings, etc., should be done after asking for permission." This is because doing altruistic deeds without permission is a demonic act. Therefore, the Gongdü (Intentional Gathering Sutra) says, "Mandala and other fire offerings, gathering disciples and teaching the Dharma, do not start without permission, in the land of the holy ones, this is not appropriate." And, "A disciple of the holy ones should not gather disciples in front of the holy ones." If time and place do not allow, then that sutra says, "If you do it for others, do not make those implements, offer them all to that holy one." Like this. At the time of the guru's passing, make great offerings to the remains, with the pure giving of the three wheels, Universally spread clouds of offerings, strongly confess the breaking of vows, make vast aspirations, make the great offering of accomplishing the guru's wishes as the main thing, do not interrupt the offerings on the day the guru passed away, save the lives of sentient beings, give to the poor, etc., in all situations praise the guru's qualities, and debate the Dharma with great wisdom.

Sam? Regarding matters of worldly affairs, even those that seem unreasonable, one should first guide them to speak their minds. Later, if they haven't fully understood the meaning of the matter, they should say, "My thinking contradicts this, and it arises in this way." By stating the advantages and disadvantages, they will be able to grasp the teacher's intention. If one forcibly rejects the teacher's view, saying, "It's not like that," one will incur a greater fault than before. As it was said earlier: "A disciple who has transformed and possesses mind, whatever harm they do to that holy being, whatever harm they do to all the Buddhas, they will always go to hell." Going to hell means falling into hell. In short, from the perspective of faith, merely seeing the teacher's face can change one's perception. What need is there to mention that the touch of the teacher's hand on the crown of one's head causes goosebumps? Merely hearing the teacher's name, remembering the teacher, or seeing the teacher in a dream can make the mind feel light and joyful, even to the point of restoring energy. This is the time when all empowerments and blessings enter one's being. Even if one lives a full life, one will undoubtedly meet the teacher in the bardo and be guided on the path. As it is said in the Gandavyuha Sutra: "By not being separated from remembering the virtuous friend, all purposes will be accomplished." Acharya Nagarjuna also said: "If something falls from the top of a mountain, even if one thinks it won't fall, it will fall. If one receives a prophecy of benefit through the kindness of the teacher, even if one thinks one won't be liberated, one will be liberated." In short, those who possess close faith have the seed of perfect enlightenment within them. As it is said in the Madhyamakavatara: "Even ordinary beings, upon hearing of emptiness, will repeatedly experience great joy within. Due to great joy, tears will moisten their eyes, and the hairs on their body will stand on end. For such a person, the seed of the wisdom of the perfect Buddha is present. That is the vessel suitable for closely revealing it, and the truth of the ultimate meaning should be taught to them." To make it even easier to understand, when the venerable Kamalashila, who held the vows of the supreme yoga, requested a single blessing, the master Shantarakshita said, "Child, relax and request a single act of devotion." Similarly, Atisha said, "All the qualities of the Mahayana, whether great or small, arise from relying on the teacher. You Tibetans only have ordinary perceptions of the teacher, so how can qualities arise?"
