and make friends with them. If we speak of ease, the autonomy of sin has unlimited power, so how can we rely on and befriend it? The more we do so, the more merit diminishes, vows are broken, and the rain of afflictions falls. In the Tantra of the Source of Ambrosia, it says: "When a vajra master is reviled, it is averted by peaceful or active karma. If one does not have the power to do so, one should cover one's ears with the remembrance. Do not proclaim it, do not speak of it. If one becomes intimate with him, one will be tormented in the lower realms." Therefore, from the path of mantra, it is also shown as a field of deliverance. Those bodhisattvas who do not possess such power or who are devoted to the asceticism of patience should cover their ears with the awareness of the faults of reviling the guru, as if with a hand, and keep far away from intimacy and mixing words. For all beings, including those who are close, associating with them is as comfortable as a belt, entering is as comfortable as salt, and being patient is as strong as a pillar. Be kind to the guru's retinue and vajra brothers. In this way, one should not act contrary to all those who are held by your compassion, such as those who hold the guru's lineage, or those who hold the practice of vows, or the close attendants who are the basis of empowerment, and the sangha of disciples, patrons, and so on. In the General Sutra, it says: "Like his close attendants, like his retinue and relatives, always look with an equal mind." For those who are close to the guru, one should regard them as the guru, and for the retinue and disciples, one should regard them as relatives, and keep them in mind. Do not become a burden to everyone, so associating with them is as comfortable as a belt, and associating with all sizes, high and low, is as comfortable as salt. Enduring all weariness and wrong views is like a pillar, and one should also be close to them in the retinue. Because they also bear the burden of serving the guru, preparing food and drink, and entertaining guests, we are able to live in ease, and this is kindness. In short, if we reject those who are close, then for a while, the interdependent connection of internal and external communication will depend on them. As it is said in the Tantra of the Accomplishment of Wisdom: "Abandon greed for the guru's property and retinue, and for rejecting those who are close." Etc.

Acting gently and harmoniously, therefore tasting the flavor of the noble qualities, is like a goose dwelling in a supreme pond, and a bee tasting the essence of flowers. Constantly associating with such wondrous conduct, without weariness, one pleases the Guru's heart. Approaching with faith, one experiences qualities. Thus, faith is the key to opening the door of Dharma. One should prostrate and pay homage to the Guru, request blessings, rise and join palms, and so forth. In the sacred Vinaya, it is also said, "As soon as one sees the Khenpo, one should immediately rise from one's seat." If one sits indifferently, it is said in hundreds of scriptures that one will be born as a blind person for five hundred lifetimes. Therefore, one should not regard the Guru with the worldly view of showing respect based on status. In the commentary on the Ornament of Realization, it says: "By escorting and welcoming the Guru, one obtains the benefit of having the marks of the wheel on one's palms and soles." Because this is entirely for one's own benefit, and has nothing to do with the Guru. Therefore, with unwavering faith and respect, focusing solely on liberation and the state of omniscience, one should serve the Guru, offering service, respect, offerings, not forgetting, inquiring about illness, providing medicine, and making paintings, etc. To summarize from all the scriptures, one should dedicate one's body to the Guru, performing prostrations and circumambulations, offering external offerings such as incense, flowers, and lamps, and internal offerings such as the Tsog Khorlo (gathering wheel), and actual offerings such as realization, meditation, wisdom, and composing treatises. Protecting from obstacles such as fire, water, weapons, poison, and wild animals, running errands in villages and towns, or performing tasks of sending and receiving messages, and engaging in immediate and necessary service work, feeling happy, and using incense to welcome and send off, tidying up the room, bed, utensils, and surroundings, arranging curtains and screens on the Dharma seat, and even pointing the pillow towards the Guru's direction when sleeping, offering the essence of food when eating, remembering kindness, and when wearing new clothes, also facing the Guru's direction and offering them, when yawning and sneezing
