Also. When the time is right, one should confess and restrain oneself according to reason. A sentient being will not be controlled by demons. Thus, a virtuous spiritual friend contradicts worldly norms, because they are straightforward and without hypocrisy or deception. What they think in their heart is not concealed by various illusions, but is openly spoken. Therefore, I have done bad deeds, or committed sinful acts, undoubtedly doing something unreasonable. Reflecting on oneself in this way, one should engage in severe confession and restraint. Although one may naturally find it slightly difficult to get along with them, generally, in order to examine the disciple's capacity, verbal misconduct may sometimes be permitted. In order to accomplish great benefit for others, the three actions of the body may also be manifested. One should not engage in self-righteous discriminatory observation of this, because one does not have clairvoyance and does not know the other's intention, so one should be cautious. For those who are stingy and those who have little generosity, when completing the limbs of the great assembly offering, they desire possessions. For those who are impatient and those who have bad character, they use unpleasant words to relax them. For those who lack possessions and lack favorable conditions, they show an indifferent attitude, and so on. Noble beings, with great wisdom, those with profound wisdom, others cannot fathom their depths. Regarding the actions of body and speech that have not been examined and appear to be unrelated, because there is no delusion in their minds, one should regard them as the great play of subduing beings, and one should not have even a slight bit of distrust. In particular, if one possesses the qualities as described in the scriptures, even if there are some shortcomings that make it difficult to approach them in terms of worldly lineage, power, status, behavior that is rough or gentle, one should think that all worldly terms are of an illusory nature, like illusions, inconsistent inside and out, all false and deceptive, why can't one endure them? As the General Sutra says: This holy one is a geomancer, this one is my protector, all worldly terms, are certainly all illusions. These small deceptions, what obstacle do they pose to the holy one? These seen in an instant, if it is like that, then it is like that.

It is merely enduring for a while. It is like, even if one appears upset from mediating others' disputes, if there is no fault, one should think of it as a cause for the exhaustion of sins. In general, even if there is no fault in the lama's place, it arises from the improper behavior of those nearby, so one should examine one's own faults and strive to confess, so that one understands that the interdependence will not fail. Regarding the manner of serving from the aspect of conduct: When the lama rises, one should not sit on the seat. When he is seated, one should inquire about his health and offer necessities. When he departs, one should attend him, not following from the right. Disrespecting the seat and mount, etc., diminishes merit. Slamming doors, flirting, frowning, lying, babbling, laughing, irrelevant talk, lacking respect and fear, thinking anything goes, these should be abandoned, and one should serve with the three doors of body, speech, and mind in peace. In this world, even for kings and officials who give only happiness, pleasure, and good reputation in this life, and just enough food and clothing, one must serve as a slave with body, speech, and life. If outsiders can endure the austerities of the five fires, etc., then to attend and honor the lama with body and speech, aiming for liberation and omniscience, is to take great essence from a body without essence. As it was said before: Even if one does not know or understand all the teachings, by greatly honoring and serving the lama who has become holy, one will cross the ocean of samsara. Therefore, when the lama rises, one should not stomp on the seat; when he is seated, one should offer one's own clothes, etc., as a seat, inquire about his health, and offer necessities; when he departs, one should prepare a hand towel on the road, wipe away dust, hold an umbrella, spread carpets, etc., and wrap up dirty or stained objects, inspect the mount and livestock, etc., and oneself should attend him. Moreover, the right side is the end of the line, so it should be avoided; walking in front is the first position, so it is not proper; walking behind will cause the fault of trampling on footprints, so it should be avoided; walking from the left is permissible, because in a circumambulation path or similar place, there is no danger of oneself falling into colliding with the holy one. Similarly, one should not step on shoes, clothes, the seat, the mount, or the lama's shadow.
