The method for examining the destination of the practitioner is: Examining the place to which one goes in any direction, such as outer and inner environments, appearances and emptiness, existence and non-existence, etc. Since the destination is not found, the mind that clings to hope and doubt regarding the result is reversed. If the destination were found, one would also have to know the characteristics of the practitioner's appearance, etc., but this is not the case when examined, so one believes that one cannot attain Buddhahood through contrived dharmas. In this way, since there is no destination, it is determined that the appearance of the external world is created by the mind. Since there is no practitioner, one gains conviction in the selflessness of the external world. At that time, the wisdom of emptiness free from going and coming is realized, and it is determined to be the Nirmanakaya. In this way, since it possesses the uncommon key points of the three places of origin, dwelling, and destination, as well as the instruction on the collapse of the house of the mind, it is an exceptionally swift path. In this way, by performing the preliminary practices of the mind, the common result is that the sins and obscurations of the mind are purified, and obstacles are pacified, and clinging is reversed. In particular, one is able to distinguish between samsara and nirvana, thereby liberating the nature of the mind into the wisdom of emptiness. Ultimately, one is able to reach the basis of the primordial Vajra Mind, which is inseparable from all Buddhas. (325) The second part has two aspects: settling into the natural state and restoring to the original state. The first aspect: In "Transcending Thought," it says, "At this time, the key points of body, speech, and mind, should be settled into the natural state by the yogi." This means that in order to settle the elements and energies that have become disordered due to those special preliminary practices into their original, uncontrived nature. The key to the body is to transcend acceptance and rejection of good and bad, and to leave it as it is, like a corpse in a charnel ground. The key to speech is to train to slow down even the breath, in the nature of being free from speech and expression. The key to the mind is to settle it like a clear sky after the clouds have dispersed, free from thoughts, concepts, and distractions. That is to say, by possessing the yoga of non-doing and non-action, settling into the natural state can be done for twenty-one days, or seven days, or three days, etc. The necessity is that in "Space of Luminosity," it says, "In this way, settling into the natural state pacifies the disturbance of the elements and illnesses, and causes clinging to be self-liberated." (326) The second aspect is restoring to the original state: In "After Death," it says, "The Shravaka, Bodhisattva, and Wrathful One, restore to their original state with their respective postures. Therefore, after the three have restored to their original state, they will diligently engage in practice." This means that first, the posture of the Shravaka, possessing the seven-point posture of Vairochana.

Therefore, for the conceptual thoughts of arising feelings, one should remain in a state of not making any modifications. Second, the way of looking of a Bodhisattva is to remain without any support, just like the eyes resting on a yoke. Third, the way of looking of a wrathful deity is to stand with legs spread apart like a giant. The eyes should move fiercely, gazing into space. The mouth should utter the laughter of a wrathful deity, "Haha," and the song of a wrathful mother, "Hihi," and in this state, one should practice the asceticism of concealing the false root of appearances. The necessity is as stated in "Vast Clarity": Through the peaceful gaze of a Shravaka, the three doors of body, speech, and mind are subdued. Through the gaze of a Bodhisattva, the bliss of subduing is attained. Through the gaze of a wrathful deity, the three qualities of subduing are also accomplished. So it is said. The old script owner, regarding the focusing of the eyes differently from the seven topics of Abhisamayalankara, and the Bodhisattva's (327) way of looking not abiding in peace, etc., are all rough appearances. Second, regarding the method of actual instruction, there are two parts. First, in order to sow the seeds of the four bodies and to become a vessel for practicing the swift path, entering the great mandala of empowerment and maturing it, these actions are actually obtained in this very moment. The actions of instruction have been completed, and empowerments, etc., do not accord with the meaning, and are not pleasing even to the eyes of those who understand the meaning of the tantras. Second, through the understanding of these words, Vajra Essence Unexcelled Vehicle is the reason why this path of transforming the result into the path is the basis of all paths to Buddhahood, and the nature of the result is introduced on the basis of awareness. The first point is: It is the basis but not the actual, like seeing a temple but not seeing the three supports, regarding profound and clear seeing, and emptiness and appearance, etc., as merely contemplating words related to each other, and having unwavering faith in this, is not correct. It is actual but not the basis, like seeing the three supports but not determining their characteristics (328), the four extremes or the eight extremes, the conceptualization of freedom from elaboration, and the practice that is not rooted in experience is also not correct. It is neither actual nor the basis, like not seeing illusions and Shakyamuni, merely using the thought that "all phenomena are without inherent existence" as the path, but not directly recognizing the nature of non-inherent existence, so that one remains in an ordinary state at the time of death, this is not the ultimate end of accomplishment. This self-perfected great
