While residing at home, in the secluded oral transmission site of Samye Chimphu's Drakgu Dewa's naturally formed rock cave, the beautiful Galde chamber, may the light of the detached Dharma Lord Khyentse accomplish goodness in the beginning, middle, and end! (236) (237) The practice of the common preliminary instructions of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik is thus established. (238) Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Here, the common preliminaries of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik are condensed into practice, establishing the method of instruction as: the difficulty of obtaining leisure and fortune, impermanence of life, faults of samsara, karma and its results, benefits of liberation, and reliance on a spiritual friend, these six. The first of these is further divided into: contemplating the essence of leisure, contemplating the distinction of fortune, contemplating the analogy of difficulty in obtaining, and contemplating the distinction of number, these four. The first is: if born in the eight states of no leisure, there is no power to practice Dharma, thus not possessing the aspect of leisure. If born in hell (239), one experiences the suffering of heat and cold, having no leisure to practice Dharma. Hungry ghosts experience the suffering of hunger and thirst, having no leisure to practice Dharma. Animals experience the suffering of being exploited and harming each other, having no leisure to practice Dharma. Long-lived gods spend their time in a state of unconsciousness, having no leisure to practice Dharma. If born in a borderland, there is no Buddha's teaching, having no leisure to practice Dharma. If born in an evil place with the same thoughts as non-Buddhists, one's own mindstream is defiled by wrong views, having no leisure to practice Dharma. If born in a dark age, the name of the Three Jewels is not heard, and good and evil are not known, (240) having no leisure to practice Dharma. If born as a mute, consciousness cannot be expressed, having no leisure to practice Dharma. Thus, not being born in the above eight places is called having leisure, that is, having the opportunity to practice Dharma, hence possessing the name of leisure and fortune. Therefore, after taking refuge and generating bodhicitta, rejoice in this life that you have not been born in the eight states of no leisure, which are the basis of the mindstream, and cultivate joy. Afterwards, repeatedly contemplate that the nature of these eight leisures and fortunes is extremely difficult to obtain, and if I do not strive in Dharma in this life, then my human body will be meaningless. And dedicate the merit

The dedication to all places also applies to the following. Incidentally, regarding the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to sudden events, and the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to limited understanding, one should also carefully examine oneself for wasting one's own mindstream, and revealing one's own shortcomings is of great significance, as stated in the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel: The five poisons are in turmoil, ignorance is possessed by demons, the lazy person, evil deeds overflow like a great ocean, being controlled by others, fearing for help, pretending to be Dharma, these are the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to sudden events. And: Bound by vows, behavior is extremely bad, not weary of samsara, having little faith, not doing good, committing evil deeds (241), not interested in Dharma, violating vows and commitments, these are called the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to limited understanding. These two sets of eight are very likely to occur. If one does not adopt or abandon these, even if one obtains the appearance of leisure, one will fall into a state of not having leisure for Dharma activities, therefore, one should know that this is just leisure for wasting one's life and living leisurely. Second, the five personal endowments and the five other endowments. First, the personal endowments are: If one does not obtain a human body, one cannot encounter the Dharma, now one has obtained the endowment of a human body. Moreover, if one is born in a border area without Dharma, one cannot encounter the Dharma, now one is born in the central region where Dharma flourishes, this is the endowment of place. If the senses are not complete, it will become an obstacle to practice, now there is no such defect, this is the endowment of the qualities of the senses. If one's actions are reversed, always engaging in non-virtuous deeds, one will turn away from the Dharma, now one is inclined to virtue, this is the endowment of the difference in intention. If one does not trust the reliable teachings, one will not be inclined to the Dharma, now one's mind can be inclined to the Dharma, this is the endowment of faith (242). These five must be viewed from one's own perspective to be complete, so they are called the five personal endowments. Second, the other endowments are: If one is not born in the Fortunate Aeon when the Buddha appeared in the world, even the name of the Dharma will not exist, now one has encountered the Fortunate Aeon when the Buddha appeared, this is the endowment of a special teacher. Even if he appears, if he does not turn the wheel of Dharma, it will be of no benefit, now the three wheels of Dharma have been taught, this is the endowment of Dharma. Even if the Dharma is taught, if the teachings decline, it will be of no benefit, now the teachings have not declined.
