The path of not learning to grasp one's own nature, as stated in the tantra: After completely serving the lama, residing in the presence of the holy one is called the path of accumulation. The holy lama explains the meaning and applies the two instructions to the continuum. I have shown this as the path of application. Through the four introductions, one sees the definitive truth in this life. I have explained this as the path of seeing. The meditation without meditation and the non-existence of meditation with meditation, remaining without separation or union, I (201) have shown this as the path of meditation. The four great intentions of the Buddha, perfected in the way of non-abiding, I have explained this as the path of perfection. Thus it is said. Therefore, since the attainment of the state of omniscience arises only from the holy lama, the bodhisattva always relies on the noble time and the noble Dharma. Just as the great teacher Nagarjuna had great devotion to the great Brahmin Saraha, and was liberated in a single session, and Atisha endured immeasurable hardships in the great ocean to request bodhicitta from Lama Serlingpa, and Naropa and Jetsun Shepa Dorje relied on Marpa, accepting whatever was said as they practiced hardships, offering whatever they had to the lama, and knowing how to transform whatever arose into devotion, one with such a mind is skilled in the essential points of the lama's instructions, gains warmth in experience, has great blessings and power, and whose realization is also supremely high. In this present time, Kuntuzangpo is just talk, so we are very fortunate. Now, without being startled like a wild yak, rely on him with great respect, and strive to obtain the profound instructions, and do not act contrary to the lama's intentions (202), think again and again. Thus, when the blessings of a qualified lama enter the continuum, first, there is renunciation of samsara, second, the expanse of wisdom is opened, and third, spontaneous thoughts arise, and all phenomena of names and knowledge become self-liberated upon utterance, and there is a cutting from within the bonds of the wisdom of ultimate meaning. The way of relying on them that has just been explained is mainly the practice of beginners, so in the main practice, one must please the lama with the offering of service among the three pleasing things, as stated in the "Collection of All Eight Commands": Now, pleasing the lama

Of the earth. Those who are excellent in the methods of differentiation, diligently practice Bodhi, in order to carry out the teachings as instructed, one month, six months, and twelve months, likewise one year, six years, and twelve years, offer the vow of practice. Likewise, serving the Guru and, whatever can be done for the benefit of sentient beings, activities for the benefit of beings in accordance with the teachings and, the three aspects of the Buddha's teachings, protect and repair, thus it is taught. Regarding that teaching, just as instructed, abandoning the mind of not practicing and being lazy, if one practices without doubt, all that is desired (203) will be accomplished without hindrance. That is why it is said. Therefore, whatever Dharma is obtained, it is necessary to fill the mind with hearing, to determine it without doubt with thinking, to establish it in one's own continuum with meditation, and to thoroughly decide it with the three wisdoms, and to reach the state of mastery of accomplishment. Even so, for the time being, beginners cannot actually practice, so it should be regarded as a place of aspiration, and those who are able to practice should take it up in accordance with the time, place, and circumstances. This method is the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree and, the Tantra of the Empowerment of Vajrapani, the collection of one hundred thousand vows of Samaya, and other early translated Tantras like the ocean. Furthermore, as the scattered instructions say, what should be taken and what should be abandoned, abandoning is the root of all faults, and taking up what should be practiced is the source of all collections of goodness, therefore it should be regarded as the root of the path. The fifth mind training is, in the "Son's Book" it says: If you do not practice after obtaining the instructions, you will certainly not attain Buddhahood, therefore abandon laziness and practice with one-pointedness. Thus, after relying on the virtuous friend as your eyes, no matter how many profound and vast instructions (204) you receive, if you do not practice with one-pointedness by counteracting distraction, merely the wisdom of hearing and the wisdom of thinking will not touch the meaning of omniscience. As it is said in the Avatamsaka Sutra: Just like a wise person who hears, liberates many sentient beings, but dies there himself, the Dharma that is not practiced is the same. And, Master Aryadeva said: In countless eons, having reached the other shore of hearing, if one looks back at one's own blessings, one will not realize it thereby. Thus it is said. Thus, the attendant of the Able One, All Joy.
