Or experiencing severe illness, or offending powerful people and later suffering retaliation, and so on. There are three great fundamental sufferings. As it is said in the Vinaya Sutra: "Cyclic existence is a painful aggregate, suffering is the collection of suffering, and the three eights (173) of change make people very miserable." As it is said, on top of the three fundamental sufferings, there are birth, aging, sickness, death, meeting enemies, separation from loved ones, the poverty of not having one's desires fulfilled, and the five aggregates of clinging constantly clinging to suffering. These eight sufferings torment people, making them very miserable. Therefore, the Omniscient One said: "Even in all the human worlds, there is no happiness, because there is only the cause and effect of suffering. In order to be liberated from suffering, one should contemplate virtuous Dharma and seek a way to be liberated from the state of cyclic existence." Thus he said. Similarly, there is immeasurable suffering even in the desire realm heavens. For example, the Four Great Kings and the Angas are human years, which are one day in each of the heavens. Calculating according to the changes of years and months, five hundred years of the Four Great Kings is equivalent to one day of Yangshuo. From the Thirty-three Heavens onwards, successively one thousand years, two thousand years, four thousand years, eight thousand years, and sixty thousand years are each one day of Tigna, Sangata, Du'abuda, Du'abuda Maha, and Tapana. The extremely hot (174) and uninterrupted hells cannot be measured by that, as mentioned above. Between the Thirty-three Heavens, Yama Heaven, Tushita Heaven, Nirmanarati Heaven, and Paranirmitavasavartin Heaven, although they appear to be happy, they are actually tormented only by the suffering of change and conditioning. At the time of death, the color of the body becomes unsightly, the flowers wither, the experience is unpleasant, the heavenly companions abandon them, consciousness is confused, and seeing with the divine eye the place where they will be born in the next life, they faint from fear. Then the heavenly parents or friends, etc., call from afar, saying: "May you be born among the people of Jambudvipa! There, practice the ten virtues, and may you be born in this heavenly realm again in the future!" Thus expressing their wishes, scattering flowers, and moving far away.

Such suffering of falling is unbearable for the gods, who endure it for seven days. When we humans are dying, relatives and friends surround the bedside, trying to fulfill their wishes in various ways, yet they still suffer greatly and are weary. What to say of the suffering of death and rebirth for the gods? Furthermore, from the Brahma realm to the Great Fruit realm, the gods of the form realm meditation, who possess splendor and glory, at the time of death, their present happiness changes, and the suffering of entering the next existence is immeasurable. The noble Nagarjuna said: "All the spontaneously accomplished meditations, such as the Brahma realm, even seeing the glory of light and color, without seeing the latent self-grasping, is there no chance of being born in hell after death?" Similarly, the four formless realms are not the proximate cause of omniscience, but are overwhelmed by temporary, undeclared meditations. Why? Because the suffering of death and rebirth into the next existence, like a bird flying in the sky that must inevitably land on the ground, will inevitably be experienced. Therefore, trusting in temporary happiness is very foolish. The Letter to a Friend says: "In this world terrified by a mass of suffering fires, those who show happiness and pride are opening the mouth of the Lord of Death, which is the seed of the tree of the next life." Furthermore, for the Asuras, the suffering is even more intense. The Letter to a Friend says: "Even the Asuras, by nature, are jealous of the glory of the gods, so their minds suffer greatly. Even if they are intelligent, they are obscured by obscurations and cannot see the truth." Seeing the happiness and wealth of the Thirty-Three (Trayastrimsa), they are burned by the fire of anger and jealousy, and when fighting with the gods, they abandon the battlefield. Their heads and limbs are cut off by various weapons such as vajras, arrows, and wheels, their lives end, their bodies are severely injured, and they are tormented by the unbearable suffering of approaching death. Even if there are intelligent ones, they cannot attain the path of seeing of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers due to the power of obscurations, so they cannot see the truth. But the view of the Mahayana is not like that, and the Omniscient One quotes from the Ratnakuta Sutra.
