Even the vajra body, which adorns the earth, is impermanent. What need is there to mention sentient beings who are like water-side trees? Thus, even our teacher Shakyamuni, who has attained freedom from birth and death, lay down on his final bed to tame those who cling to permanence, which is saddening. Similarly, the emanations of Indian and Tibetan pandits, kings, ministers, and bodhisattvas have come and performed such deeds for the Dharma, as recounted in the sources of Dharma, histories, biographies, etc. But in reality, not one of them remains like a guiding lamp, which is evident and causes heartache. So many of one's own relatives, friends, and intermediate beings, who existed last year, yesterday, or even last month, have passed away to another world, leaving behind only emptiness without a corpse and a name. We ourselves will certainly die. Now, we have reached the degenerate age, and even if we could live out our full lifespan, our lives are shortened because there are twenty-one thousand six hundred breaths in a day (144). Thirty days make a month, and twelve months make a year, so life is exhausted effortlessly. The *Extensive Play Sutra* says: 'The three realms are impermanent like autumn clouds; the birth and death of beings is like watching a dance; the life of beings passes like lightning in the sky; it flows swiftly like water cascading down a steep mountain.' Having reflected well on how we cannot remain even for a moment, we should generate the diligence of a head on fire and strive to extract the essence. Secondly, to cultivate this in one's mindstream through the gateway of pith instructions: For individuals with an understanding of Dharma, encouragement based on scriptural authority is pure and penetrates the mindstream. For beginners and those with extremely obscured minds, use parables, stories, and captivating methods, as these are essential and should be combined with the student's disposition. That is to say, when one unexpectedly arrives at an unfamiliar and frightening place, a vast plain with no human traffic, where the wind howls and reeds rustle, feeling lost and filled with fear, suddenly two men and women of black and white complexion appear from nowhere and say that in a place called 'Six Aggregates Illusion City' there is a wish-fulfilling jewel.

I said there was treasure. To get that, you have to take a boat to the great river. Do the three of you want to go together? So he said. I believed it and followed the two of them. Somehow, a sea appeared as if the great sea was pouring into the sky, boundless, and the waves were rolling in the air. It is filled with monsters, big fish, mermen, sea horses, etc. In short, it is filled with many creatures whose heads and bodies are mismatched, which have never been seen by the eyes before, and which are creepy, appearing and disappearing in the wrinkles of the waves. When I arrived there, I was very scared and wanted to run away, but I was driven by the desire to get the treasure, so I took the boat that the two of them had put down and crossed the sea. When I reached the middle of the sea, a terrible red storm arose. Unable to bear the fear, I struggled desperately, and as a result, the paddle handles in the hands of the two men broke at the same time. The waves of the sea (146) rolled in the air, and sometimes it felt like the boat was floating on top of the world. Sometimes it felt like the water was rolling in the air and the boat was sinking to the bottom of the sea. At that time, there was nowhere to escape, and there was nothing to grab, no place to grab. The terror called death forcibly descends between breaths. I had never thought of death before, so I had no confidence in practicing Dharma. Sons, wealth, relatives, friends, neighbors, from today onwards, they will be separated, and those things are of no use at all. Oh, it's terrible! What should I do now? Oh my! Alas! Alas, alas! While I was wailing and crying for help, in the sky in front of me, the kind root guru appeared in the form of Orgyen Great Master Padmasambhava Tötrengtsal, dancing and said: Alas! You see the nature of the suffering of samsara as if it were a wish-fulfilling jewel, so you have never thought of death. Your current clinging appearance arises from the one root - ignorance. The two men and women who seduced you are co-emergent and imputed ignorance.
