Also, by alternately abiding in post-meditation equipoise, one gains greater stability, blending into the daytime appearances and environment. For sudden appearances like fear, there is no need to suppress them with antidotes; instead, they manifest as the power of post-meditation. Mahamudra calls this the Great One Taste. If it accords with the Paramita Vehicle, then at this point, the terms "great, middling, and small paths of meditation" are established. One cultivates the eightfold noble path, progressing from the second ground, the Immaculate, up to the tenth ground, the Cloud of Dharma. How is this so? According to the view of the Ornament of Clear Realization, each of the great, middling, and small is further divided into three, thus becoming nine. The smallest of the small is the second ground, the Immaculate, which is the perfection of discipline. The middle of the small is the third ground, the Luminous, which is the perfection of patience. The greatest of the small is the fourth ground, the Radiant, which is the perfection of diligence. The smallest of the middling is the fifth ground, the Very Difficult to Train, which is the perfection of meditation. The middle of the middling is the sixth ground, the Manifest, which is the perfection of wisdom. The greatest of the middling is the seventh ground, the Gone Afar, which is the perfection of skillful means. The smallest of the great is the eighth ground, the Immovable, which is the perfection of strength. The middle of the great is the ninth ground, the Good Intelligence, which is the perfection of aspiration. The greatest of the great is the tenth ground, the Cloud of Dharma, which is the perfection of wisdom. Therefore, this transformation of the ten grounds is considered to be the same as a Bodhisattva. Its state is as stated in the Uttaratantra (511): This conduct of a Bodhisattva, in post-meditation, is equal to the Thus-Gone Ones, in liberating sentient beings, in the world. Although it is so, what is the difference between dust and the ocean, the water in an ox's hoofprint? That is the difference between a Buddha and a Bodhisattva. Thus, from the aspect of the similarity in the way of acting, it is shown to be the same as a Buddha in liberating sentient beings. But in reality, from both the aspect of action and the agent, the Buddha is superior, as shown by the example of dust and so on. The difference in qualities is that from the second ground onwards, the initial qualities, twelve hundred in number, increase a thousandfold in each moment.

Whether the ability to mature is manifested or not has already been explained by the example of the Garuda and the vulture. Fourth, the path of no-more-learning has three divisions: great, medium, and small. First is the small yogi. As it says in that very text: 'When the mind of memory, desire, and effort is exhausted, the sameness of subsequent attainment mixes with samsara and nirvana. When there is a subtle stain of delusion during sleep, that is called the small yogi of no-more-learning.' Therefore, in the lower paths, the function of subsequent attainment, by the power of the immeasurable perfection of the accumulation of merit and wisdom, always endures the views of desire with the reality of reason and logic, and all commitments that cling to union, non-duality, and even the inexpressible, dissolve on their own. The present awareness is equal and does not change color. In the nature of uncreated wisdom, there is not a speck of what is to be meditated upon; from where can the meditator be found? In the samadhi that is free from the one who abides and what is to be abided in, from where can subsequent attainment be sought? When a good view is drawn from its sheath, what does mindfulness cling to? When the place of distraction has become the nature of reality, who becomes distracted? When intention is liberated from space and goes into the unattached vastness, from where can activity be accomplished? No matter how the appearances of samsara and nirvana arise, experiencing them in unattached spontaneous presence, where does the tooth of mindfulness insert itself? The desire to meditate is destroyed from its foundation, so it is enough to rest. There is nothing to rest upon, because it is spontaneously present. It is not existent, because it is free from grasping. It is not non-existent, because it is the intention of the Buddha. Now, having become a descendant of Longchen Rabjam (Longchenpa), alone in a cave, I burst into laughter. (513) Ah la la ho! Ah la la ho! Ah la la ho! I beat the clay drum of the enjoyment wheel with my throat. If you, who cling to words and are confused about meaning, were to see this, you would surely think it is the view of a Heshang. You would surely think it is the view of Bon. You would feel that it is the doctrine of the naked ascetics. He he, the Madhyamaka that does not abide anywhere is also here. The Mahamudra that is beyond mind is also here. The Great Perfection, primordially pure, is also here. The great demon of groundlessness and rootlessness has entered the heart of the yogi, and I don't know what it is doing. A madman whose alaya consciousness has dissolved into the Dharmakaya!
