As a branch of approaching, contemplate by focusing the mind on the clear appearance of the three places, such as the same mudra of subtle samadhi, then the qualities of the path of accumulation and union will manifestly appear. Thus, from dependent arising such as mindfulness, the signs of the five winds of knowable experience gradually entering the central channel are like smoke, mirages, fireflies, and cloudless sky. These should be known as signs of the flourishing of experiential appearances. Similarly, in dream omens, constantly being naked is a sign of purifying habitual patterns, climbing a sky ladder is a sign of attaining a level, riding a lion and an elephant is a sign of dominating a level, and a smiling reflection is a sign of receiving a prophecy. In short, as stated in the Vajra Garland, the sequence of path signs is inconceivable, and if excessive joy or sorrow arises, demons will look for an opportunity, so one should not hope for goodness. Similarly, when practicing external heat, one will see particles, syllables (Tibetan: ཡི་གེ, 242), hand implements, subtle bodies, and so on, as well as the colors and sources of fire, water, and wind. When practicing internal heat by meditating on deities, one will not feel the breath moving in and out. Secret heat is knowing all activities as illusory, realizing that all dharmas are enlightened from the dharmadhatu without relying on effort or the causes and conditions of accomplishment, so activities will clearly appear as wisdom. External signs include light, sound, smell, a smiling reflection, a self-igniting lamp, a skull cup flying into the sky, bodily comfort, and the generation of nectar. Internal signs include greater compassion than before, less attachment, freedom from bias, great respect for vows, compassion for lamas and dharma friends, not expecting good results, not doubting samsara, and not fearing demons, among many other phenomena. One should not have joy or sorrow about these either. Similarly, because of mastery over the crown, the five inner afflictions do not arise in external objects, and the harm of the five outer elements does not affect the body, and so on, are signs of the mixing of mind and appearance. Being able to endure the differentiation of appearances, being capable

From ashes (243), gold is extracted; from dry land, water is drawn; from coal, trees are grown. Thus, signs of mastering appearances and mind become manifest. Although the body does not transform from its ordinary state, because the mind matures into the form of a deity, it is called the "Vidyadhara of Maturation." As the Guhyagarbha Tantra says: "As vast as the eye's reach, the mudra is attained but not touched; the one with a perfect form and great power is just that." Here, "eye's reach" refers to the body, and "vast" refers to the mind, meaning the attainment of the mudra. If this person passes away without attaining the supreme Dharma, they will attain the Mahamudra in the bardo, like molded images and tsatsas. This is because they have abandoned the body of maturation and the mind has already matured into the form of a deity. As the Karma sequence states: "When practicing approach and accomplishment for sixteen months, if one does not transform into a vajra body, due to weak power, unfavorable circumstances, and weak aspirations, one leaves behind the remaining body from which conceptual thoughts arise, and goes with wisdom to the place of Vajradhara." Therefore, after obtaining the supreme Dharma through the power of great samadhi, one can truly gain control over life. As the tantra says: "The Vidyadhara who gains control over life, in six months, twelve months, or sixteen months, attains the supreme of the lineage of mastery." Second, the path seen as a branch of approaching (244) is shown. As the tantra says: "Complete the mandala with its retinue, and strive diligently according to the method of approaching." Therefore, no matter how one practices from the great secret of single essence to the expansion of mudras, one must integrate the meaning of clarity, stability, dharmata, and great bliss into the practice, thereby manifesting the qualities of the seven branches of enlightenment. Because the path of seeing arises in the mind, one obtains the five kinds of clairvoyance and the four kinds of miracles, etc. Actually listening to the Dharma in front of the Nirmanakaya, and realizing the self-nature of things, one perfects the supreme Dharma. Because the degenerate body is transformed into a vajra body, one attains a state of no birth and no death, and is therefore called the "Vidyadhara who controls life." As the Karma sequence states: "Perfectly realizing the meaning, accomplishing the eight aggregates of siddhis, the body's elements, place of birth, and defilements are exhausted, transformed into a vajra body, the lineage of life. In the Dharma of seeing, one passes into nirvana, without abandoning the physical body, one becomes a Buddha, free from all fears, perfect in miracles." That is to say, if done in a similar way, Guru Padmasambhava, in the cave of Marti, through the practice of Gangmandarwa, performed the practice of the near lineage.
