May the essence dissolve into the Dharmata. Then, as appearances dissolve into increase, like moonlight appearing in a star window, the white path appears and the white element diminishes. Then, as increase dissolves into near attainment, like the cloudless sky darkening at dusk, the black path appears and one faints into the state of the ground of all. Again, as the eight life-sustaining winds separate, (466) one awakens slightly from the faint, and the primordial "I" sound arises. Clear and unceasing, like the autumn sky, one abides in the state of emptiness and clarity, free from obscurations. At that time, may the present, primordially pure, mind-free expanse of reality, for the ordinary consciousness that is scattered and unrestrained, find certainty and, through the power of remaining in equipoise, may the secret palace of luminosity within the primordial ground, the space of Samantabhadra's realization, endowed with six special qualities, be seized in an instant. If one is not liberated in the first bardo, may one dissolve into the spontaneously present luminosity of the expanse of reality, and when the appearances of the eight ways of dissolving, such as sounds, lights, rays, and mandalas of light spheres, arise, may one recognize one's own appearances in the bardo of reality and be liberated like a child entering its mother's lap. At that time, if one is frightened by sounds, terrified by rays, and afraid of the appearances of the body, and is not liberated, may one awaken from the illusion of dreams through the blessing of the truth of reality and the lama, (467) and may one be born miraculously in the lotus matrix of the self-existing nirmanakaya pure land and be liberated with a breath. Through the power of entering the path of the luminous Great Perfection, the meaning that transcends all the nine vehicles, whenever one enters the primordial womb, may the measure of liberation, the sounds, lights, and earthquakes, and the visions of the five lineages and peaceful and wrathful deities, and so forth, may all the common appearances be manifestly accomplished. Through the pure intention of the vidyadhara self, and the power of the truth of reality, which is nothing whatsoever of the nature of reality, may all sentient beings of the three realms, and especially all sentient beings connected by relationship, be liberated simultaneously in a single light sphere in the wondrous and delightful pure lands of the four kayas. Thus, this prayer of aspiration for purifying the pure lands of the three kayas was spoken by the self-born Padmasambhava in the solitary place of the Vajra Peak of Oddiyana, when he was practicing alone (468), in the early morning, when he saw Mount Haspo Ri with his own eyes, and on the summit of Mount Gare Rima Gi, where the feet of the master, disciples, king, and subjects had trod.

Having subdued gods and demons, stories of dispelling sorrow are widely circulated. However, all of these now exist only in name. Believing that all such conditioned phenomena are impermanent, even though I calculate that I will not die for a few years, I am filled with immeasurable sadness and renunciation, wondering if there is any certainty that I will not go to another world tomorrow. Remembering the king and subjects of Oddiyana (Uḍḍiyāna), a Chim (dispute) of immeasurable proportions occurred, which served as a cause. At that time, in order to fundamentally urge the yidam, in conjunction with prayers, taking the way of liberation of the bardo path appearance as the root words, this aspiration prayer that can be recited was written by the detached Khyentse Özer (Wisdom Rays). (469) The Bardo Aspiration Prayer, called "Ocean of One Intent," is present. (470) The Bardo Aspiration Prayer, "Ocean of One Intent": Of all the Buddhas of the three times, The essence, precious Lama, Look with compassion upon me, the protectorless. I am oppressed by the darkness of ignorance, From beginningless samsara, Overwhelmed by the sins of karma and afflictions. Disparaging the Lama and being angry with my brothers, All places of vows and commitments, Falling into the abyss of great misdeeds. All the faults committed unknowingly, Today I confess with intense remorse. In the past, I transgressed your teachings, If such sins and downfalls are not purified, If I go to another world, I will surely be burned unbearably by the fires of hell. At that time, will I be able to abandon myself? The root of beginningless and endless delusion, From the inexpressible nature of reality, With the co-emergent ignorance, the great demon, The nature of being associated with the place of birth, In the bardo, having obtained a Dharma-endowed (471) leisure and fortune body, Then pleasing the Lama, Relying on the wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating, Thereby generating renunciation and bodhicitta, May I practice the supreme path of the six perfections. Time is pressing, for beings, It is called the bardo of dying, At that time, may there be no bad causes of death, Nor may there be violent severing of life, Through the blending of space and awareness, The clear light merging into the sphere manifests, May I be liberated in the primordial ground. If the power of habituation is weak, Closing the eight doors and opening the secret place, Through the instruction of consciousness riding on the wind, Relying on transference and entering a womb, May I attain the state of a sky-faring vidyadhara. Thus, the Bodhisattva's, The way of transference not yet
