May all beings attain the ultimate two benefits through the virtue accomplished with pure intention! Respectfully written by the name of Chandra. Auspicious! Auspicious! Auspicious! (380) (381) The ritual of the Fourfold Mandala of Tara, the Ornament of the Thought of the Naga King, is present. (382) That name's utpala, The pride of the dangling ear ornaments, The adverse side of the eight fears, I prostrate because it is certain only to be this. Here, the ritual of the Fourfold Mandala of Tara, which pacifies all adverse conditions such as the eight great fears and sixteen, has three parts: preparation, main practice, and conclusion. First, in a clean and pleasing place such as a temple or monastery, arrange the general Three Jewels and, in particular, the blessed image of the Noble Lady, with four mandalas at the four corners and five offerings arranged in rows on the four walls. Arrange four sets of white round tormas, decorated with white (383) three and sweet three, as appropriate. In addition, prepare bathing equipment such as a vase filled with essence, and offerings to sustain each set. Second, the main practice has two parts: accumulating merit based on the common objects of refuge and accumulating merit based on the individual Noble Lady. The first part also has eleven items. The first is that one should bathe oneself and abide in cleanliness, taking refuge and generating aspiration: The verses beginning with "To the Buddhas, the Dharma, and the supreme Sangha," three times. The second is taking the Bodhisattva vows: May all sentient beings be endowed with happiness (384) and the causes of happiness! And so on, contemplate the four immeasurables three times, followed by: Until the essence of enlightenment, I take refuge in the Buddhas, And in the Dharma and the assembly of Bodhisattvas, Likewise, I take refuge. Having taken refuge three times, precede with: Just as the Sugatas of the past, Generated the mind of enlightenment, And in the training of the Bodhisattvas, Abide in those stages in order, Likewise, for the benefit of beings, I will generate the mind of enlightenment, And likewise in the training, I will train in stages. At the end of the three: Today my life has fruit, I have well obtained the state of a human, Today I am born into the Buddha's lineage, Today I have become a son of the Buddha. I
