The way of abiding is considered to be only that the Dharmadhatu is free from all elaborations. If you wonder what that way is like, it is the ultimate truth that is beyond words, thoughts, and expressions. As it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: 'O Light Protector, what is the ultimate truth of emptiness? It is something that no one can see, cannot be manifested, cannot be obtained, and cannot be not obtained.' And as it is said in the 'Praise to the Mother of the Son': 'Inexpressible, inconceivable, the Perfection of Wisdom, unborn, unceasing, the nature of space itself, the realm of individual self-awareness wisdom, to the mother of the victors of the three times, I prostrate and praise.' As it is said. If that is the case, for the time being, from the aspect of mind, all appearances are falsely labeled as speech, thought, and expression, and placed in the category of conventional truth. Although it is accepted that the two truths are what is to be realized and what realizes, it is beyond that. As the nature of reality just mentioned, it cannot be manifested by anyone. There is no seeing, and there is neither obtaining nor not obtaining. It is necessarily and perfectly in accordance with emptiness. When wisdom arises, it is merely a label of realization that is attached. Therefore, if one knows that all phenomena are of the nature of dependent arising, then it is shown by the way of manifestly realizing that very nature, and so on. In this way, whatever phenomena appear are said to be established by dependent arising. This is the secret treasury of all the scriptures, and with the wisdom of thought, one can correctly enter, like a key that fully opens the door to all that is to be known. It is like the quote from the Root Wisdom text mentioned earlier. If dependent arising is further divided into categories, then the dependent arising of nature or abiding is indicated by phenomena and existence, and so on. That is to say, all phenomena of phenomena, existence, samsara, and nirvana, from wherever in the ten directions and three times they may come, have not gone anywhere, and do not abide anywhere. This is the dependent arising that abides in the original nature. Although the phenomena themselves appear to be in the three states of arising, dwelling, and ceasing, at the very moment of appearance, they arise as emptiness and do not abide in any extreme of elaboration. This is the Madhyamaka nature as it is, as taught by the Victorious Ones. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: 'Whatever is dependent arising, that is explained as emptiness.'

It is established in reliance on this, and that is the Middle Way. It is taught by means of cutting off the elaborations of the path in this way, and so on. In the appearance of seeing like illusions, various pure and impure phenomena suddenly arise. Although they do not exist in reality like a rabbit's horn, they appear as if they do not exist like an image. If one does not understand their lack of reality and clings to them with complete imputation, one will draw near and accept them. If one enters the path but still speculates and analyzes, four extremes will arise: the extreme of existence, the extreme of non-existence, the extreme of permanence, and the extreme of annihilation. If one hopes to meditate beyond these four extremes, but still clings to the center and establishes a philosophical system based on it, one is not wise, because one will fall into one extreme. As it says in the Samadhiraja Sutra: "Those who are attached establish existence and non-existence. Thus, contemplation does not pacify suffering. Both existence and non-existence are extremes. Purity and impurity are also extremes. The wise do not abide in the middle way." In this world, unwise people are like silkworms, which bind themselves with silk threads, and with the fault of pitiful means, bind their own hands and feet with saliva silk threads. Similarly, they bind their own minds with the bad philosophical systems of one-sided desires. Therefore, when all is thoroughly determined by the sharp wisdom of the non-extreme Middle Way, all phenomena imputed by the mind here, the initial birth, the final cessation, the present abiding, going here, coming from there, etc., do not exist. Why? Because they are neither one nor different, neither permanent nor annihilated. So, how should it be understood? It should be understood as the nature of the Dharmadhatu (310), which is the self-luminous emptiness in which all elaborations are pacified. This is the essence of the wisdom arising from hearing and thinking. As it says in the Lankavatara Sutra: "Clinging to the sound of knowing things as real is like a silkworm binding itself. Children are not good at connecting and are bound by their own bad philosophical systems." And as it says in the Madhyamaka Ratnavali: "The things that are promised do not exist even as atoms, because they are originally unborn, like the son of a barren woman. For example, ask a barren woman, 'Who is your son?' Because he does not exist for her, she cannot speak."
