It is sorrow. As stated in the previous scripture: "For those who have entered the path of karma, what person is without addition? What person has gone without fault? What is there to grieve for in that?" Thus, even that one will die. Who else is not? This is a great loss, and a great lament should be made. Thus, before all beings, there is death. Since all is the appearance of change, there is no reason to grieve. So it is said. To illustrate the example of the slowness and quickness of the passing of life, it is said, "A person," and so on. Thus, the speed achieved by a person's effort is that four strong men stand back to back and each throws a pebble in the direction they face, and the pebbles reach the same point in the air at the same time, which is considered the ultimate speed. But the hungry ghost walking on the ground is faster than that. The hungry ghost walking in the sky is faster than that. The chariot of the sun and moon is faster than that. The very fast gods are faster than that. But what is faster than all of them is the passing of human life. In the *Vishesastotra* (藏文, विशेषस्तोत्र,梵文罗马拟音,vishesha stotra,汉语字面意思,殊胜赞) it is said: "Like a ship in the ocean swallowed by a makara, even unwillingly. Like me, a fool, driven by the power of karma, I run quickly into the mouth of the Lord of Death. The merciless Lord of Death demon also swallows other beings in the same way." So it is said. In particular, to show the four great illusion wheels of the destruction of samsara, it is said, "When in full bloom," and so on (25). When the youth that is always served with reverence is in full bloom, it is afflicted by the punishment of old age, and when the aggregation of the four elements is stable, it is disturbed by disease. The power of perfect prosperity is destroyed by decline. Death attacks life, coming quickly and quickly. In the *King's Admonition Sutra* it is said: "Great King, for example, great mountains rise firmly from the four directions," and so on, extensively. After that, to arouse the sorrow of the characteristic of separation from the body, it is said, "When," and so on. Alas, when the aggregates are defeated on the battlefield of the Lord of Death, and the time of death arrives, then, separated from refuge and help, in the desolate wilderness abyss, consciousness alone runs, and the essence of life and the power of the five senses diminish and are completely abandoned.

Doctors and medicines could only stare blankly at him, helpless and resigned to his death. The body stiffens, the neck struggles to turn, the limbs are weak, and the breath is involuntary. The winds of karma stir, relatives and friends gather around the bed, crying out in anguish, but the pleas to delay death (26) are no longer secure like hooks, having lost their grip. As his breath gradually weakens, becoming as fine as a horse's tail, the merciless Lord of Death severs it with a sharp blade. As it is said, "Having abandoned beauty," he becomes ugly, with protruding upper and lower lips, revealing his teeth, falling from the realms of bliss. This scene is displayed by the waves of tears. Due to non-virtuous deeds and other causes, he must enter the dark abyss of samsara. As the Hundred Deeds Sutra says, "One should always and everywhere remember the Lord of Death." And as the Bodhicharyavatara says, "Day and night, at all times, one should only contemplate this truth." And so on. This is the explanation of the second chapter of the Jewel Treasury of Qualities. Third, regarding the establishment of cause and effect. Because everything depends on karma, karma must be determined. In order to guard against non-virtuous deeds, it is said, "Thus," and so on. Therefore, those who pass from this world to the next, the difference in their status, high or low, also depends on the power of virtuous deeds performed in this life and (27) the force of habituation to evil deeds. Why? Because the truth of dependent origination in conventional truth is not deceptive. As the Ratnavali says, "Virtuous deeds bring happiness, and all the good realms; non-virtuous deeds bring suffering, and all the bad realms." And so on. In order to illustrate this point with a metaphor, it is said, "Whoever," and so on. Just as here, when various kinds of seeds are sown, their power matures in due season, appearing in the crops of the farmers. From the initial birth until now.
