Because it becomes a medicine for all sentient beings, it will be loved and approached by everyone. Because one will not die untimely, it is like a nectar that destroys the lord of death, an inexhaustible treasure, and like a wish-fulfilling jewel that eliminates poverty, residing in the shade of a gathering tree, it is the most supreme medicine that pacifies diseases. Because one has wandered for a long time on the path of samsara, it is a resting pavilion for guests whose mental strength is exhausted and weary. Therefore, from now on, I will become the sustenance for all sentient beings. So it is said. This is the commentary on the eighth (185th) chapter of the Jewel Treasury of Qualities. Now, to begin with showing the place of instruction, it is taught with "in the past" and so on, that one must be cautious. That is, in the past, without having examined well, reckless behavior, any action distracted by the eight worldly concerns, even though it is the cause of wandering endlessly, if from the immediate perspective, one makes vows to "do this, do that," and also hesitates whether to abandon it or not. Here, by the power of the great wisdom of the Buddhas and their sons, if one abandons the places of acceptance and rejection that have been examined and analyzed without doubt, then I will deceive all sentient beings. One will wander in the endless abyss of the lower realms. Therefore, even the slightest happiness of a sentient being, if destroyed, one should not do actions that will cause oneself to fall. It is very important to make such a firm vow. Even if one has taken the Bodhisattva vows and possesses both the mind and strength of Bodhicitta, but if one experiences suffering in turn from the peak of samsara to the Avici hell, even just attaining the stage of following faith will take a long time to achieve, what need is there to mention the Joyful Land and other higher stages? Therefore, who among those who are in their right mind would abandon the place of instruction (186), unless they are mad? Since the root of all faults is affliction, one should treat it like an enemy, and it is taught with "what kind of way" and so on. Those who, even for the slightest cause and effect of harm, cannot control their minds, and immediately retaliate with intense arrogance. Even if the opponent shoots arrows and other fierce weapons, they do not care, but endure it and conquer themselves.

If one does not turn back until the matter is accomplished, then who with a mind to uphold the vows would abandon the asceticism of guarding the vows, enlisting the Three Jewels as allies until the ritual of revenge is not finished, against the great strength of the eighty-four thousand armies of afflictions that have become enemies, transferring the great burden of suffering onto oneself at all times and in all ways. Therefore, to aid the asceticism of guarding the vows, one should attend to the seven precious royal possessions that are fitting for the noble king. From the cultivation of conventional bodhicitta by the teacher Hero, With the precious wheel of faith, lead the way of virtue day and night. With the precious consort of morality, (187) adorn oneself with extremely beautiful ornaments. With the precious minister of generosity, great transformations of merit and wisdom arise. With the precious general of hearing, crush the battlefield of the enemy of wrong thoughts. With the excellent horse of shame, conceal afflictions in the sheath of selflessness. With the elephant of the power of embarrassment, abandon inverted actions. With the precious jewel of wisdom, fulfill the hopes of oneself and others. The treasure of the noble ones with limitless qualities, other mundane treasures are the cause of suffering. Thus it is said. The state of individual ordinary beings is shown in these and other places. Those beings who are bound in the prison of afflictions in this world cannot even know what the end of their karma will be, let alone have the unwavering power to liberate all beings from suffering. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to be diligent, as it is said, abandoning unexamined, random actions, being mindful and knowing all that should be learned, and the ritual to be practiced is also easy to generate the sprout of bodhicitta on the good ground that corresponds to it. Therefore, without diminishing even slightly (188) the holding of this, the method of cleansing the defilements that have come from beginningless time, and of tirelessly increasing the accumulation of virtue, one must be diligent. This is the concluding word of what must be done. Now, from the explanation of the bodhisattva's discipline, first, the objects to be abandoned, along with their parts, which are the precepts of abstaining from misdeeds.
