It also truly abides in that. Taking a vow based on the cause is the mind of entering. Why is it said "in the cause"? Because it is reasonable for the fruit of omniscience to rely on the cause. Its training is to rely on all pure realms suitable for practicing the six perfections, etc. The extensive division of nature is: From the perspective of division, there are two bodhicittas, those of ordinary beings and noble ones, as well as the bodhicitta of ethics, the bodhicitta of samadhi, and the bodhicitta of wisdom, i.e., the three bodhicittas that rely on the three trainings. Among them, especially (page 161), the bodhicitta that practices with faith on the paths of accumulation and preparation. From the first bhumi to the seventh, due to the reversion of the afflicted mind, it is the bodhicitta of pure superior intention. In the three pure bhumis, the mind consciousness, the five sense consciousnesses, and the alaya consciousness revert in sequence, so it is the bodhicitta of fruition. From the Buddha bhumi, the alaya consciousness reverts, so it is the bodhicitta of abandoning obscurations, totaling four. Similarly, there are five bodhicittas, such as the initial karma that follows the five paths of accumulation and preparation, etc., and the corresponding number that relies on the six perfections. Furthermore, there are twenty-two types, etc., distinguished by the boundaries of the bhumis. The noble Maitreya said: "That is, earth, gold, moon, fire, treasure and the source of jewels—the ocean, vajra, mountain, medicine, spiritual friend, and wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, song, king, treasury and great road, vehicle, adorned water, and musical instrument, river, clouds, etc., are twenty-two aspects." If the metaphors and meanings are separated, there are three aspiration bodhicittas and nineteen action bodhicittas. The first three are: desire, intention, and superior (page 162) intention. Among them, all dharmas associated with desire have the characteristic of wanting to manifestly awaken to enlightenment, like the earth. That which is associated with intention is the characteristic of the six perfections, because it is unchanging, like pure gold. That which is associated with superior mind is the characteristic of wanting to practice the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, because it wants to increase all white dharmas, like the waxing moon. The latter nineteen are: one associated with application, and the ten perfections such as generosity, plus manifest

Possessing wisdom, possessing merit and wisdom, possessing the aspects of enlightenment, possessing tranquility and insight, possessing dharani and eloquence, being a garden of Dharma, being the one and only path, possessing the Dharmakaya. The three aspirations among them are the path of accumulation, which is the initial stage of the small, medium, and large bodhicittas. The initial practice of entering here, like fire, is the bodhicitta of the four paths of application. Similarly, generosity is like a treasure, discipline is like the source of jewels (163), patience is like the ocean, diligence is like a vajra, meditation is like a mountain, wisdom is like medicine, skillful means are like a virtuous friend, aspiration is like a wish-fulfilling jewel, strength is like the sun, and prajnaparamita is like a song, which is the stage of cause, the realm of experience of the path of seeing and the path of meditation, corresponding sequentially from the first to the tenth bhumi. The three pure bhumis have common characteristics: clairvoyance is like a king, the two accumulations are like a treasury, the Dharma that accords with the aspects of enlightenment is like a great path, compassion and insight are like a fine steed, dharani and eloquence are like a decorated water source, there are five in total. Only the tenth bhumi is different from the previous ones, the joyous feast of Dharma is like a musical instrument, the one and only path is like a river, possessing the same as the Dharmakaya is like a cloud, there are three in total. The twenty-one just mentioned are spoken of from the path of accumulation to the tenth bhumi, the eleventh, the all-illuminating bhumi, is not connected with the fruit, because the ultimate bodhicitta attained by the nature of Dharma (164) in that bhumi has no analogy. The immeasurable intentions and actions of the Buddhas are included in the etceteras, such thoughts pervade aspiration, entering pervades practice, and all belong to this. And so on. In order to clearly guide the merits of aspiration and entering respectively, it is said "whoever" and so on, whoever seeks his own benefit, always opens the door that never closes, does not cause displeasure in the mind of the beggar, welcomes him into the room and satisfies him, then he makes endless offerings to him. Such praise is worthy of all.

Thus, merely generating a single aspiration bodhicitta for the benefit of limitless sentient beings can close the doors to the three lower realms, and one will attain inexhaustible merits by relying on happiness in the realms of gods and humans. Moreover, the merits of entering (the Bodhisattva path) are boundless. In reality, by combining with the six perfections, for the practice that pervades the Bodhisattva path, from whatever time onwards, with the unwavering bodhicitta, with the firm vow to liberate beings from the ocean of samsara, from that time (page 165) onwards, even if one sleeps carelessly day and night, the accumulation of merit will continuously increase. This is because it has been explained with reason in the Bodhicaryavatara. The saying of "accumulation of eons" and so on, is also like that. That is to say, even the accumulation of many eons can be gathered in an instant. How is that? For example, the boatman killed the black man with a short spear out of great compassion, thereby accumulating forty thousand eons of merit; the Brahmin boy, Star, engaged in impure conduct for the sake of the merchant's daughter, thereby accumulating twenty thousand eons of merit. Therefore, it was said, "livestock" and so on. For example, livestock and elephant carts, and the sun and moon, etc., show the transformations of the Shravakas and the transformations of the Tathagatas. Like the way of proceeding in the five examples, there are fast and slow, boundless, this is the (result) of the next life. That is, at the time of generating bodhicitta, the first is merely desiring to be a Shravaka; the second is practicing the Great and Small Vehicles mixed together; the third is abandoning the inferior aspects (page 166); the fourth is striving from believing in the Great Vehicle to complete enlightenment; the fifth is even more powerful than that. The first two are unstable ordinary beings, the third is stable, the fourth is from the first bhumi to the seventh bhumi, and the fifth is included in the Vipaka-bhumi. The first two will regress, the last three will not regress. Bodhisattvas with extremely dull faculties have thirty-three, that is, three each in the accumulation and application paths, and three each in the ten bhumis. Those with medium faculties have seven, that is, two each in the accumulation and application paths, one in the path of seeing, and two in the path of meditation.
