To act perversely, relying solely on the four black dharmas, and utterly hating the four white dharmas such as praising the holy ones, the longer one associates with such a person, the more violent the storms of various sinful deeds become, destroying the friend's roots of virtue without leaving any trace. For a foolish person who relies on such an evil friend, how could the hosts of demons not destroy them? Therefore, the wise do not associate with them even for a moment. The benefits of abandoning evil friends are immeasurable, and therefore, the scriptures explain this with words such as "therefore." Therefore, one should abandon what should be abandoned. On the other hand, by relying on virtuous teachers and friends, all the qualities of constant happiness and goodness can be manifestly attained even in this lifetime. What need is there to mention the fruition of cause and effect in future lives? From this time until the essence of enlightenment, may the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas constantly remember and bless us, so that we are not lacking in all the qualities of higher realms and definite goodness. May we perfect the two accumulations, purify the two obscurations, and attain the two kinds of accomplishments. May the qualities of the ten grounds and five paths increase higher and higher. Therefore, meditating on the Guru Yoga is the accumulation of merit, and blending the Guru's mind with one's own is the accumulation of wisdom. Through the fruit of perfecting the two great accumulations, one can easily attain the essence, which is inconceivable wisdom. Therefore, rather than extensively serving and making offerings to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas for countless eons, and practicing hundreds and thousands of stages of generation, it is superior to merely remember the supreme Guru for a single moment. This is what the Buddha, the speaker of truth, has said. The second turning of the wheel has been explained up to this point. Now, in order to clarify the meaning of good aspirations, the content of "Holy Dharma" and so on is proclaimed. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Excellent object and excellent teacher, excellent means and excellent renunciation, are the characteristics of excellent aspiration." Thus, speaking and following, like a person who, with the river of nectar of the holy Dharma of Sutra and Mantra, integrates the immeasurable treasure into their own continuum, is an excellent object, that is, a wise person with profound discernment.

Therefore, when fortunate ones encounter a virtuous lama who expounds the meaning of the Dharma, the excellent method of interdependent origination, both high and low, is excellent. By relying on these, whatever the purpose one wishes to achieve, one can quickly attain it without regard to difficulties. This is the pith instruction, which will not be wasted on meaningless prophecies, and therefore one will not be led astray. And the indispensable companion to all of these is like the example of a good renunciation that understands the key points of what is and is not appropriate, the advantages and disadvantages, like a potent vidyā-mantra (རིག་སྔགས།). For example, just as the power of a mantra can dry up the dense mass of clouds in the sky's water reservoir during the rainy season, the affliction of not being weary of saṃsāra is a great demon that cannot be cured. By striking it in this way, the root of the subtle proliferation of existence will be destroyed from its roots. Therefore, it is called a "good aspiration" that possesses four virtues. The opposite of this is shown by what is called "entering the door of Dharma" and so on. For example, even after entering the door of Dharma for years, one immediately becomes weary, and faith is like oil that has been squeezed out. For the sake of this life, even if one engages in some hearing, thinking, and meditation mixed with evil intentions such as competitiveness, jealousy, and suspicion, one immediately loses interest in the Dharma, and the objects to be protected, the vows and commitments, become an unbearable burden. One spends one's life engaging in the eight worldly concerns, driven by a fierce curse, not only wandering on the precipice of laziness in the great vehicle's asceticism, but also, in order to destroy all subtle and gross good aspirations, one only muddies the pool of leisure and opportunity with the mud of sin. The method of liberation from this is shown by what is called "directly" and so on. That is to say, directly, directly, what is the powerful antidote to each of the five great poisons of affliction (kleśa-viṣa) that arise suddenly? For the sake of the three types of individuals (trayaḥ puruṣāḥ), climbing onto the great chariot of the sacred Dharma spoken by our teacher, without weariness towards the four—the remoteness of the past, the unpredictability of the future, the knowledge that what is happening now is perishable, and the equality of the three times—and when will those who make vows cause all appearances of the objects of the six senses to arise as Dharma and the guru? At that time, everything will become a cause for attaining omniscience, therefore it is a good aspiration.
