Even if you persuade hermits to practice the Dharma for the sake of this life and the next, and let them stay, but from a certain stage of practice (101), they will become at a loss, like the tip of a kusha grass in the wind, bending alternately up and down, unable to determine the direction of both worldly affairs and Dharma, disguising with bad character, such as the act of capturing and killing musk deer, like the tongue of a smooth and soft rope, approaching the guru like a swollen bull with cunning means, just like a hunting dog seeing a musk deer, happy to satisfy his own desires, hypocritically approaching, once he obtains the precious Dharma like musk, he completely turns to the behavior of a hunter, not only does not repay the kindness, but insults and has wrong views, and even does not hesitate to kill, abandoning the vows like throwing a stone into the water, thereby achieving the state of hell. The commentary on the three Samaya sentences says: Defaming the Vajrayana master, forgetting the vows because of greed for wealth, food, and power, those who do not keep the vows will have a short life in this life, wealth and good fortune will decline, suffer from the punishment of the Dakinis, and fall into evil destinies in the next life. So it is said. In addition, considering the faculties of some ordinary people, he said "mindfulness" and so on. All those who are not grasped by mindfulness, even if they have obtained the key points of the generation stage and the completion stage, will not practice them, but only think that hearing is enough, and then let it go, searching for various kinds of written materials, and finally when they are exhausted, they cannot see any profound principles of taming their own minds, and all the knowledge accumulated in the past will disappear, which is the law of nature. Also, even if the way of entering the Dharma is similar, the distinction of meaning is expressed by "truth" and so on, for sentient beings in samsara, in order to combine with the true meaning, why not strive to practice? Entering the Dharma with such faith, or entering the Dharma with desire in order to achieve worldly goals in this life. For these two situations, do not judge easily, like fortune-telling, for situations where there are no clear instructions, enter the Dharma with a neutral attitude. In the three states, carefully analyze their characteristics, and it is important to choose what suits you. So it is said. Although these show the inconsistent aspects of the students, then...

If asked how to know if one is qualified? It is indicated by "armor" and so on. Like this, (thinking) that oneself is the only boat that can liberate from the river of suffering of the existence of the three realms of beings. (103) Generating such a magnificent and splendid heart, from that time on, with uninterrupted wisdom and extreme firmness, disregarding the most precious body and life in the world, serving the guru for the sake of the guru's affairs, listening to all teachings, even regarding worldly gossip as the same as the Buddha's teachings, such a person who does not cherish himself can be liberated by devotion alone. Among the general characteristics, what is precious is indicated by "faith" and so on. That is, faith, wisdom, listening to the Dharma, and great compassion. For the three vows and the places of vows, one-pointedly respect, and do one's best to do good with body, speech, and mind, be tamed, cultivate with deep wisdom, be broad-minded, generous, and possess pure appearances and shame, etc., which are very important in any case. The practice of a disciple who possesses these characteristics is indicated by "guru" and so on. Not just once, but cherishing the guru more than one's own eyes, not to mention protecting everything that belongs to the guru, this is virtuous. For the teachings and rebukes given by the guru, not generating anger, like a good horse. Just like not bearing a grudge even when whipped with iron (104). Like a boat, not feeling tired for errands, even sweeping the floor, etc. Like a bridge, bearing all good and bad, such as happiness and suffering. Like a blacksmith's anvil, enduring the torment of heat and cold, and the threat of hunger and thirst, etc., accepting it like enjoying happiness for the sake of the Dharma, this is patience. Like a servant, listening to all teachings. Abandoning pride, being in a low position, like a sweeper. Abandoning arrogance, like the best among the herd, like a buffalo's horn being cut off, one should rely on the guru with these thoughts and actions just mentioned, this is what is said in the scriptures. If one has wealth, because the guru is the embodiment of the Three Jewels, he is honored as the Fourth Jewel, and one should devote oneself solely to offering to the guru. Why? It is said in the Sutra Compendium of Intentions:
