Also, it cannot be found. They spit on each other's faces, and from their throats, pus from ripening boils is sought. Some of the preta people cannot be found. Not to mention where good food can be found. Pus and filth and blood, etc., unclean things also cannot be found. Due to the power of anger, they pull out sticks from their legs and beat each other in the face. From the throats, pus from ripening boils drips into their bellies, and they do not seek other food besides that. Those with external obscurations are: For the pretas, during the Soka (a Tibetan festival), the moon is hot and the sun is cold in winter. These trees become fruitless, and just by looking at them, the rivers dry up. For the pretas, hot and cold are reversed, and during Soka, the moon is hot and in winter the sun is cold, causing suffering. The abundant fruits of the trees also become invisible, and just by looking at them, the rivers with eight qualities dry up completely, leaving not a single drop. Also, the pretas who roam in the sky are those with decaying bodies and corpses, and madmen, exchangers, yakshas, flesh-eaters, shadow oppressors, desiccators, night-sailing oppressors, rakshasas, tsan, kings, etc., beings of the ghost class. From small memories, those who harm children, those who entice with desire, those who eat their excrement, (61) those with decaying bodies will be born. And so on, due to the faults of greed and miserliness, after death they will be reborn as pretas. So it is said. To explain this a little, for the appearance of a place, the differences in the karma of the six types of beings cause the way they see things to become sixfold. That is to say, due to the differences in good and bad karma, the way they see things becomes various kinds of good and bad. For example, for the same appearing thing, due to inferior karma, it appears as pus and blood, medium karma as water, and good power as nectar. Here, the reason why different ways of seeing the same thing are not explained is because it contradicts both scripture and reason. The sutra says: "Objects are the same, but minds are different." Thus, saying that one thing appears in six ways is contradictory. Also, the appearance of water is the same, but there are six different substances, and it is also harmed by not being able to specify the object of appearance. If it is said that they cannot see because their karmas mutually obscure each other, then that is too extreme.

Therefore, for a single person, when both enemies and friends are watching, although they are in two states of being pleasant and unpleasant, neither of them will see each other, because they are obscured by karma. Speaking of which, what did you say? In the "Entering the Middle Way," it says, "Water flows into the sewer, and hungry ghosts see it as pus and blood. In short, as things are known, so is the mind." Please consider, what is the purpose of quoting this example? According to you, the example and the meaning will become inconsistent, and there will also be dark matter in the sun. The sutra says, "When the mandala of the sun appears, there is no place for darkness, and it cannot be seen." This also contradicts the sutra. Light and darkness cannot coexist, because they are contradictory. If your view is like this, then things are not truly independent of the mind, therefore, as a way of knowing things, one should not establish one thing appearing in many different ways, why not establish six kinds of things by their own nature? Saying that things are not established from their own side is also false. In the "Entering the Bodhisattva's Way," it says, "Who made the iron burning ground? Where did these fire masses come from? All of them are created by sinful minds, as the Buddha said." You haven't even heard of this sentence. This kind of realization is extremely foolish, how could anyone listen to it? For animals, there are also two kinds, general and specific. First, in the "Letter to a Friend," it says, "Even in the birth of animals, there are various sufferings such as killing, binding, and beating. For those who have abandoned the peaceful virtues, one eats the other, which is extremely unbearable." Therefore, third, even in the birth of animals, there is no happiness. For animals, the two situations are scattered: whether or not they are possessed, they will suffer various sufferings due to the harm caused by humans and non-humans, such as killing, binding, and beating. For those who have abandoned the virtues that can lead to the attainment of peaceful nirvana, that is, animals that are not suitable as vessels. The other is the place of drowning, that is, living in places such as the great ocean, where the big ones devour the small ones, the small ones pierce the big ones, one eats the other, etc., with extremely unbearable ripening results. The second is also as mentioned earlier: "Some are killed for pearls, wool, bones, meat, and skin."
