and those who are tightly grasped, their skin cracking into six sections like an উৎপal flower, and like the lotus and the great lotus, cracking into eight, sixteen, then twenty-four, thirty-two, up to countless cracked wounds. Creatures with sharp beaks pierce and devour, and pus, fat, and marrow also drip. Their lifespans and so on are explained in detail elsewhere. Next, the minor limbs are shown: as stated in "obstacles" and so on, cutting down trees or obstacles, mistaking them for one's own body, and being wrapped inside stones and rocks without doors. Furthermore, mortars, brooms, sticks, winnowing baskets, doors, pillars, stoves, and ropes, all impure and other-controlled emanations produced by various actions, regard them as their own bodies and cling to them, having to endure unbearable suffering, as stated in the Vinaya Pitaka and so on. Thus, the eighteen sufferings of hell are widely known. In addition, in the Akasagarbha Sutra, when discussing the cycle of Avici Hell (57), it is said: actions of breaking vows and accepting offerings from devout patrons lead to falling into the small hells. There are the cold shivering hell, the dark hell, the extremely hot hell, the razor-edged hell, the wheel of swords hell, the fiery chariot hell, the mud of excrement hell, the hot spring hell, the river of burning embers hell, the forest with sword-edged leaves hell, the iron wheel hell, the iron Shalmali tree pillar hell, the iron bed hell, the iron wheel hell, the iron cave hell, the iron hammer hell, the gathering destruction hell, the piled-up hell, the boiling copper pot hell, and so on. Thus, the suffering of hell is more profound than any other suffering. Nagarjuna also said: The suffering of being fiercely stabbed by three hundred short spears in one day here, compared to the small suffering of hell, one dares not even mention it, let alone endure it. And, seeing, hearing, remembering, reading, or depicting hell, even that causes fear, so what need is there to say about those who personally experience the unbearable ripened karmic results (58)!

So. The other two evil destinies have already been discussed in the first chapter as having no leisure. Considering that it would be a fault of the teachings to repeat them, only a section is mentioned here. However, in the extensive commentary, as stated in the Letter to a Friend, I will do the same. From that very scripture: The first of the two, general and specific, is: Even ghosts, due to the poverty of desire, the suffering they generate is constant and unchangeable. Hunger, thirst, cold, heat, fatigue, and fear, the suffering they generate is extremely unbearable, one should endure. For a while, generally speaking, beings born as ghosts are impoverished by desire, and that is the suffering it generates. The time is constant. What cannot be reversed is unchangeable. They suffer from extreme hunger and thirst, and unbalanced cold and heat. They are always exhausted from running around in search of food and drink, and they are terrified and frightened by seeing many executioners chasing them. The suffering generated by that is also extremely unbearable, one should endure. That is the summary. Second, showing the specific suffering, the internal obstructors are, from the previous one: Some have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, stomachs as large as a mountain, yet they are troubled by hunger. Even if they find a little bit in the filth, they do not have the power to eat. It says, ghosts, some have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, stomachs as large as a mountain, and they are troubled by hunger for food. Even if they find a little bit of excrement and urine, etc., discarded in the filth, they cannot eat because the opening of the mouth is too small, they do not have the power to eat. Those obstructed by food and drink are: Some burn from the mouth at night, and the food is sand that falls into the burning mouth. Some eat on the flames burning from the mouth every night, also the nature of burning, falling into the mouth, wherever they eat hot sand. The common obstructors are: Some are skin and bones, bodies naked. Like a dried palm sprout. Some have no flesh between the skin and bones, only a thin and emaciated body, naked. For example, like the sprout of a palm tree, that is, the head is dried up. In particular, the inferior or low caste, that is, those whose merit is extremely small, are: Some low castes eat pus and feces, blood, and other impure things.
