Those who strive to manifestly apply the methods, being overwhelmed by the power of ignorance, the rituals are all turned upside down. (49) Relying on the splendor of sharp weapons, unbearable in their own characteristics due to the cause and effect of suffering, placing oneself completely and unimpededly in a state of pure harm, like a moth being burned as soon as it encounters the light of a candle. Being deceived by sound, smell, taste, and touch, like a deer being killed by a hunter for being attached to sound, a bee dying from being closed in by a lotus for being attached to smell, a fish being caught and killed by a hook for being attached to taste, and an elephant dying by drowning in a lake for being attached to a beloved touch. These five objects of desire, and cause and effect, dependent origination, will surely deceive. Vasubandhu also said: Even seeing the great heap of blazing fires, those with great attachment to form, moths will enter the fire. This is about form. Eating clean grass sprouts, able to go very far, hunters will surely seek and kill deer with songs. This is about sound. Always walking in the sky, with an extremely pleasing appearance, bees will surely die from the fault of smell. This is about smell. Walking on unobstructed paths, always wandering around, fish, attached to tasting, will be destroyed by hooks. This is about taste. Competing with the guardians of the earth, constantly knowing the king of mountains, bulls will surely kill elephants by the close touch of a cow. This is about touch. In all these deceptions, the scripture says: Even if beings have only one, they always possess these five, destroying day and night, how can they obtain happiness? So it is said. Showing the power of the suffering of samsara, it is said, "Existence," and so on. Like this, just encountering the realm of existence, there is nothing more powerful than destruction. Showing the manifestation of anger, that is, the roughness of violent actions, faster than the punishment of carnivores, savages, and kings. After the previous suffering, the next suffering arrives, and these beings are continuously tormented. In the realm of benefit and harm, the way the application of cause and effect causes me suffering

It is said, and so on. Regarding this, just as it is said in the world, from beginningless time, it is impossible to conceive of friends or enemies, relatives and foes, etc. As it is said in the "Letter to a Friend": A father is the son, a mother is the wife, one who was an enemy is also a friend, and vice versa (51). Therefore, there is no certainty in samsara. So it is said. At all times, sentient beings, having obtained a body, cling to "This is an enemy," "This is a friend." With the mind clinging to the unequal side, bestowing benefit and harm is beyond comprehension. As the noble Katyayana said: When a householder begged for alms, he held in his lap a young child who had been an enemy. He ate a fish that had been his father, and his mother, having become a dog, gnawed at the fish bones. Seeing this, he said: Eating the flesh of the father, beating the mother, carrying the enemy of bad karma in the lap, the wife gnawing at the husband's bones, the ways of samsara are laughable. So it is said. From beginningless time, experiencing suffering with countless bodies, it shows the length of time. It is said, and so on, about atoms. Here, what need is there to elaborate on the long beginning and end of birth? Like tiny sentient beings, like bodies of atoms, the sole support of life, abandoning the corpse that has become a form, and indulging in licentiousness for the sake of desire. If the heads and limbs cut off by others' weapons, etc., are all piled together, they would be higher than Mount Sumeru, therefore the greatness of Mount Sumeru would be diminished. Now (52) is the explanation of the nature of each of the six realms, the first of the three, teaching, explaining, and summarizing. It is said, and so on, about the hell realms. When born in the hell realms, one involuntarily drinks boiling molten copper, and when transformed into a preta body, one eats pus and blood and impure things. If all the tears shed from various causes of suffering are collected, they would be more numerous than the rivers that reach all directions. So it is said. The second is to explain separately. It is said, and so on, about the differences. Compared to other realms, the suffering of hell is immeasurable. Killing each other with various weapons, dying and reviving, therefore it is called the reviving hell. Similarly, drawing lines on the body with black lines, sawing and splitting immediately.
