Because clinging and suffering never cease, it is the Black Rope Hell. The Crushing Hell is where mountains with terrifying animal head images converge, approaching in the middle, and grinding into powder with hammers. The Howling Hell is in a single-layered iron house, where molten iron is boiled in an iron pot, and struck from the outside with weapons. The Great Howling Hell is where a two-layered iron house is burned. (53) The Hot Hell is where the entire body is pierced with burning iron skewers. The Very Hot Hell is where a three-pronged short spear pierces upwards from the lower part of the body, up to the shoulders and head, and then from the outside, it is wrapped with ropes of red-hot iron sheets and cooked in boiling copper water. The Uninterrupted Hell is in an extremely burning iron house, where "this is the burning fire, and this is the sentient being being burned" are burned without distinction, completely emitting cries of agony in a single mass of fire. In order to indicate the remaining parts and nearby places of those hells, suffering and so on are spoken. Whenever, as mentioned before, most of the karma to be experienced has been exhausted, and gasping for breath from that suffering, when one begins to flee in search of an opportunity for happiness, the nearby door opens, first the pit of dung fire, mistaken for a stream of ash water, and entering, the flesh is burned up to the waist. The bones are also crushed and torn apart, and then revived. Fierce Yamaraja guards stand by. The second is the Corpse Rot Hell, falling into a dirty mud swamp, where sharp-beaked animals (54) with white bodies and black heads peck at the body, and the body is like a net, and life is painfully snatched away like a bird. The third is the Sword Forest, seeing the appearance of a green forest from afar, and running to reach it, the trees are swayed by the wind, raining down weapons, and the body and senses are harmed. The fourth is the Immeasurable River, in the middle of a plain filled with razors, there are alkaline hot springs. It is filled with three-pronged short spears, arrows, and sharp swords, sinking and being destroyed in unbearable pain, even the inner circle of Yamaraja cannot endure it. These are the of the Uninterrupted Hell.

Since there are four groups in each of the four directions, there are sixteen. The Pūritang just mentioned and the Śalmalī to be discussed are not included in the previous four, as stated by the teacher Lodrö Chenpo. The former, Pūritang, is not grasped by the root, and the latter, Śamali, is said to be called "intimacy," etc., which indicates this. This is because the appearance of husband and wife, etc., are close, and when a call is made at the top of the Śalmalī tree, they remember the vow of intimacy and rush to go. Many dogs, donkeys, female animals, and jackals chase after them, and sharp iron thorns point upwards on the road, severely piercing the body, causing blood to drip. They touch the burning and rough iron husband and woman, and whatever appears, they embrace each other and experience suffering. Finally, they call out again at the top of the tree, and when they go, as before, thorns and short spears, etc., stand upright, causing them to suffocate and fall into the abyss. Vultures and other birds gouge out their eyes and extract their intestines, etc., causing them to be tormented by suffering. The cold hell is: Alas, compared to the unbearable hot touch, how much better it would be if it were colder! Such a wish is the same as the weakening of the cause of the experiencer and the corresponding arising, as mentioned before. Among them, there are two explanations, common and separate. The first is, it is said to be a blizzard, etc. Thus, even if only the reversed mandala of the earth is placed, the great snow mountain that cannot be seen, in the unbearable canyon, the blizzard clashes with hail. The trembling body is extremely cold, as if bound tightly with ropes, curled up into a ball, unable to move. But still, they can feel the suffering, and their consciousness is clear, although they look alive. Because the sharp power of the wind pierces deep into the bones like a weapon, the cold touch is painful as if squeezed between the teeth, and they are on the verge of death. The second is, it is said to be blisters, etc. Because it is extremely cold, the body is covered with blisters, so it is called the blister hell. Similarly (56), the blisters burst and become wounds. Therefore, they utter the wail of "Achu," and the sigh of "Kyihud," their voices hoarse. They cannot even make a sound, and their teeth clench.
