Da. There is also the perception of water as a dwelling place. There is also the perception of the sky as the sky. There is also the perception of the sky as a dwelling place. There is also the perception of the sky as the earth. Therefore, because there is no certainty, it appears in whatever way due to the power of habit. So it is said. The difference between appearance and the object of appearance is indicated by "even so," etc. As just said, even so, the object of appearance is not the mind. For example, even though the image of a face enters a mirror, it is merely an appearance due to the cause of the object and dependent arising, but the face and the mirror never mix. This is known as an obvious truth. As it says in the King of Samadhi Sutra: On the surface of a mirror or in a vessel of sesame oil, when a woman looks at her face adorned, the entire circle of her face appears there, yet it is neither existent nor non-existent. All phenomena should be understood in the same way. So it is said. To show the difference between the apprehended and the apprehender, it is said, "like non-existence," etc. In the appearance of all phenomena as non-existent (513), the mind that mistakenly grasps there is like suddenly seeing a striped rope and thinking it is a snake, thus grasping it. The first awareness is the apprehended object, and the subsequent understanding and detailed analysis is the apprehender. This is also said in the Conduct of Avalokiteshvara: There, the apprehended is the mind that grasps the object, and the apprehender is the mind and mental factors that analyze it. So it is said. Some people think that the apprehended is the real entity of the object, which is a misunderstanding. In that case, in the appearance of noble beings, it would be like an illusion, and in the vision of the Buddhas, it would be pure other-emptiness, because it is liberated from the apprehended and the apprehender. To show the difference between appearance and object, it is said, "if," etc. On this, there are two parts: the explanation of the root and the analysis of the extremes. First: If the appearance as an illusion is the apprehended, and the apprehender is the knowing mind with a master, then the person who does not distinguish between appearance and the object of appearance will also exist or not exist together with the appearance itself. So it is said. Second, there are two parts: refutation and establishment. First: The mind that believes that appearance and the object of appearance are the same, (514) when your appearance ceases, the object will not be established, because you believe so. If you admit,

If you are destroyed along with it, then the previous location does not exist. Because you do not appear. This reasoning cannot be fundamentally accepted, because even when you do not exist, the environment still exists. Secondly, according to our own system, the environment is a mistaken appearance that arises from the power of the mind and the strengthening of habitual tendencies, but it does not truly exist. For example, the environment is like the moon, the mind is like a pond, and the appearance is like a reflection. When the ponds dry up, the reflection does not appear, but the moon still exists. Similarly, when the mind ceases, the appearance vanishes, but the existence of the environment is proven by direct perception. Therefore, the wise say that the first thought of grasping at the environment is appearance. This way of speaking also refutes the truth and falsehood of the Mind-Only school. Some say that the way of establishing the environment in the Dzogchen system is similar to the Mind-Only school, but this is just a superficial understanding of not understanding the whole picture, and it is easy to understand through their explanations. In general, because the power of inverted views has become strong, who can stop those who arbitrarily utter irrelevant (515) cries? As Dharmakirti said, "There is no end to the path of error, so there is no need to elaborate on it here." Just as realizing the root of the mind leads to the self-liberation of grasping, this is explained everywhere. Whenever, due to the sudden causes of ignorance and grasping, the lord of existence thinks that he has been abandoned and relies on others to think "I," and thinks that the environment is "This is mine," "This is other," like this, if the root of delusion without end or middle is cut off from the mind, then the All-Creating King, that is, the Sugata-garbha, will first arise from himself and will eventually dissolve into himself. This is the commentary on the eleventh chapter of the Treasury of Precious Qualities. In order to establish the uncommon path, he spoke of "whatever" and so on. Here, whatever great path that integrates non-learning appearance and emptiness and leads to the ultimate fruition of enlightenment, all the qualities of the six perfections rely entirely on the perfection of wisdom. Why (516) do we say this? Because that path will never become the cause of anything else until omniscience. If one wonders if this is a repetition of wisdom, then there are three types of wisdom, the first two are counted as the former, and the latter are shown.
