It is said that all things that arise are examined. From these three kinds of ignorance, four conditions of delusion arise. These four conditions are: the nature of the base itself exists like an aura, which is the causal condition; from this arises discernment and discrimination, which is the lord condition; from this, grasping the object and the subject separately is the objective condition. These three arise simultaneously, which is the immediate condition. From these aggregates, the delusions that arise sequentially turn into power. The aggregates of afflictions increase, and in whatever place of samsara, as described in the common path of the three types of individuals, it is thus established. The twelve links of dependent origination revolve in a continuous cycle like a chariot wheel. Among them, the three causes are ignorance, the four conditions are formations, discriminating objects is consciousness, the distinct name and form are name and form, the six sources are composed of individual components and colors, enjoying objects through this is contact, the perception of pleasure, pain, and neutrality is feeling, attachment to happiness is craving, acceptance is (509) grasping, and karma projecting into future lives is existence. In this way, the six realms and four modes of birth, although their essence is emptiness, manifest as illusory horses and cattle. From the first six kinds of ignorance in the never-before-existent empty form, the six discriminating minds arise, and the six consciousnesses appear. The six kinds of ignorance are: as shown by self-arising, the root ignorance of the mind is co-emergent, which has already been explained. The deluded ignorance of the object is the phenomena that encompass both the container and its contents, arising from one's own power. The basis of delusion, the foundational ignorance, is the four conditions that have already been explained, namely the immediate condition. The grasping ignorance of awareness is the six minds. The mind that is similar to and associated with ignorance is endowed with intelligence and movement. The consciousness of the mind is the awareness of grasping self in relation to objects. The determining mind is the arising of attachment to it. The universally seeking mind is the collection of subtle aggregates of afflictions. The extremely coarse mind is the performance of various non-virtuous actions. The mind that establishes and fixes is the discrimination between self and others in terms of appearing objects, and there are six of these. Transforming (510) the ignorance of the path is the failure to see the appearance of the Buddha due to inverted views. The unknowing, ignorant

Ignorance is not knowing that one possesses Buddha-nature and wandering in samsara. Like this, the bondage of grasping at conceptual thoughts as self is extremely powerful, even binding the mind, which is like the realm of space and without inherent existence, and clinging to it as if there were a self, thus revolving like a wheel of fire. Therefore, in this world, the ways of seeing objects are different. Some see light, some see darkness; some see nectar, some see water, some see fire. All these completely contradictory notions arise from the compassion of each individual's karmic imprints, and even if they are determined, there is no contradiction. In the Sutra of the Play of the Lotus, the son of the gods, Playful One, said to Manjushri: "Manjushri, are these external objects created by a creator, or how should they be viewed?" Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, these external objects are not created by a creator, but are appearances of the karmic imprints of mind or conceptual thought." The son of the gods said: "How can karmic imprints, however increased, cause the appearance of things like mountains, oceans, sun, and moon, which are solid and dense?" Manjushri said: "Son of the gods, it is possible to appear. In the great city of Varanasi, a Brahmin named Fire Offering, by meditating on his body as a tiger, caused all the people of the city to see him as a tiger and flee, leaving the city empty. Also, by meditating on the exhaustion of earth and water, they appear as earth and water; if a monastic practitioner of Yoga practices meditating on the concept of impurity and skeletons, they appear as such, then why would the increase of beginningless karmic imprints not cause appearances?" The son of the gods asked: "By the power of increased karmic imprints, why do various appearances arise?" Manjushri said: "All appearances are uncertain. What appears to one is darkness to another. For example, even with just earth, some perceive earth as earth; some perceive earth as fire; some perceive earth as enjoyment; some perceive earth as suffering. Some perceive fire as fire; some perceive fire as enjoyment; some perceive fire as a dwelling; some perceive fire as food. (512) Some perceive water as water; some perceive water as fire; some perceive water as earth; some perceive water as nectar."
