Hearing the sound of the ḍaṃ, a great joy arose in my heart, and they said, like a string of beads, that they were going to meet Marpa. To fulfill his wish, I sang this song. Emaho! Seeing the nature of reality directly, the lama free from elaboration. Meditating with unattached mindfulness, is the ultimate devotion. The bindu does not depart, like the rays of a crystal. If you meditate on the clear light Dzogchen, do it like that. The manifestation of bodhicitta, the ḍākinī of bliss and emptiness. The display of the moving wind, is the root of the path of means. The place of abiding does not depart, inseparable from the channels and chakras. If you meditate on great bliss Anu, do it like that. Shaking obtained, stability perfected, spontaneously accomplished yidam. The meditation of the three mandalas, is the essence of the generation stage. Peaceful and wrathful not departing, innate self-nature. If you meditate on great yoga, do it like that. Primordially guarded, without boundaries, is the special quality of samaya. The practitioner cuts through the root, is the nature of dharmata. The object of practice primordially pure, is the essence of primordial purity. If you meditate on the expanse of view, do it like that. Meditating on the profound whispered lineage, is the key point of practice. Untying the knot of the central channel, is the merit of the signs of the path. The bhumis and paths are not outside, perfected in self-awareness. If you meditate holding the hand of the Buddha, do it like that. Thus he spoke. At that time, the villagers nearby, with greedy minds, slaughtered fat and large animals, etc. They brought the essence of their sinful food, such as their livers, saying that they would offer it to the ascetics and meditators. The giving is a pure appearance, indeed. Those who can kill have very (124) large hearts. In their view, they do not consider the sin of killing to be great, but rather hope to obtain great benefits by giving small offerings, thereby eliminating their own sins. They have a great hope that they can pull the animals with iron chains, as we do. Lord Nagarjuna said: The end of the mother is only the size of the word "tsik gu", even if rolled into a small ball, it cannot change the earth. All sentient beings have been one's own mother. Although those worldly people understand this principle, they are also able to kill. But we, who practice the Dharma, cannot eat meat. Why is that? Because they may be our parents in a previous life.

Mothers, siblings, and friends, all those cherished in the heart, have now become hunchbacked, dull-witted creatures called livestock, ignorant of what to accept and reject, with horns on their heads, walking on the ground with four legs. Without even a thought that they might be parents and relatives, they are herded into empty pens. Turning away from virtuous worldly conduct, and in opposition to great compassion, in the hands of the repulsive and sinful butcher, one by one, are handed over one's parents, siblings, and relatives from previous lives. Those old mothers, bodies trembling, eyes streaming with tears, breathing heavily, thinking, "What should we do now? There is nowhere to escape, we cannot fly away, let us die now." (125) Such suffering is heavy and unbearable. The feeling of terror is like falling into a pit of hellfire. The body is turned upside down, the chest burns, the eyes turn blue, and as one watches, the belly is cut open with a knife, the limbs fall limp, unable to move, and one is sent on the path to the next life. It seems there is no benefit to the offerings of worldly families. Repeatedly reciting, "Ogyen Rinpoche, have mercy," tears flow uncontrollably. The venerable Katyayana, once while begging for alms at the home of a householder, saw the householder holding a young child, eating fish with relish, and throwing stones at a female dog gnawing on a bone. Through the venerable one's clairvoyant insight, he saw that the householder was eating the flesh of his father reborn as a fish, throwing stones at his mother reborn as a dog, and holding in his lap the enemy reborn as the child who had killed him. The venerable one was deeply saddened and spoke in verse: "Eating the flesh of the father, striking the mother, holding the evil enemy in one's lap, the wife gnawing on the bones of her husband, the ways of samsara are laughable." As the venerable one said, with this transformation of forms from previous and future lives, despairing at this heart of stone that eats the flesh of parents without hesitation, weeping with sorrow, the nature of great compassion arises as the conduct of emptiness, so what? Now that they have been killed, merely being sad is of no help. The Victorious One's method
