Be sure to distribute well! Life is impermanent like a guest, the mind is like a bird on a branch, easily changing. Similarly, the partiality of enemies, friends, and relatives is also an unreliable situation. Be sure to abandon the idea of permanence! When others give you reverence and service, beware of giving rise to pride, and if (because of pride) you change your mind about benefiting other beings, do not be too harsh. However, the aging of compassion is an example of transforming into hatred. Carefully examine these, and do not break the vows that are in accordance with the Dharma. What is eternally unchanging is the suchness of wisdom. When you abide in your true nature, no matter what you do, there is no danger. From the age of six, I entered the gate of the Buddha's teachings. As soon as I entered, I had renunciation, and compassion. However, the integration of mind and Dharma was around the age of twenty-five. At the age of twenty-five, I knew a little about how to abide in the root. But before the age of twenty-eight, I did not truly see this awareness from worldly meditation. Even in those times, it was only through the nature of mind that I knew the change of place and the liberation of self. Beyond that, because it could not be realized, it was as if it existed. At that time, the obscuration of knowledge seemed to be the greatest. It was only after meeting Samantabhadra that I realized it. When the eight realizations of being free from the object of meditation and the subject of meditation arise, hope and fear naturally disappear. Knowing the reality of all dharmas, I practice without acceptance or rejection. Even if I am slandered or revered, I have no fear. Only the thought of benefiting others arises in my mind. At that time, including you, the disciples seeking rituals gathered from all over U-Tsang and Kham. All I did was benefit everyone. A happy and leisurely yogi, I would not regret it even if I died now. Therefore, you faithful ones, strive to have your sons follow your father's footsteps! This was written by Rigdzin Jigme Lingpa at the request of Wang Jigme Kundrol and Rinchen Dorje Denka, heart-son disciples from the southern Bhutan region, to give instructions. The so-called Tathagatagarbha is the view of non-fabrication and freedom from elaboration. That is the mind (of sentient beings) mixed with the habitual tendencies of mind and mental factors, and sudden events.

Wandering aimlessly is called wandering in samsara. The Lama will reveal the reason for this. Receiving empowerment and blessing the lineage is like clearing away obscurations. Recognizing the nature of mind requires guarding with mindfulness. If you can realize that the Lama and mindfulness are inseparable in your heart, it is called devotion arising on the path. Clear devotion, as long as it is not forgotten, is empty and does not need anything else. For those who have devotion and diligence, the remembrance of the Lama's instructions will also come. If this happens, first, blessings will enter through the faith of empowerment, and it will become the cause of purifying obscurations. Even in difficult times such as death or the bardo, you will remember the Lama, and then faith will nourish the lineage. At that time, compassion will arise involuntarily for those who do not understand how sentient beings abide (673), who do not rely on holy beings, and who cannot reverse cause and effect due to suffering. In this way, the accumulation of merit will be quickly completed, and from the depths of your heart, a nature of fruit beyond thought, which cannot be remembered, will arise. Abiding in this state, the qualities of the grounds and paths become mere names, the Lama's realization is transferred to the disciple, and the realization of no meditation and no action abides in the nature, which is called the merging of minds. This is heartfelt advice. Instructions are to dispel the darkness of the heart. The activities of all the Buddhas of the three times are concentrated in Padmasambhava. The hope of the Nagri (གནགས་རི།) region rests on you. I pray to you with respect. Please look upon your following disciple. One named Norbu (ནོར་བུ།) who has caution (674) and faith. May distorted clinging be completely shattered. With strong love, compassion, and respect, please listen to the heart of this ascetic. In the beginningless and endless ocean of samsara, the transformer is ignorance and self-grasping. Grasping at what is without self as self, awareness is scattered by external objects, therefore enduring the body of karma and suffering. The actions of this life are like dreams and illusions, extremely impermanent, like dew on the tip of grass, lightning, and bubbles, even so, clinging to the unreal, cherishing and protecting it, so that karma, afflictions, and obscurations ride on the shoulders. The white and youthful life passes in an instant, exhausted without being noticed, and the Lord of Death, the demon, does not know when he will come.
