Do not be particularly attached, but like the object of meditation, cultivate the state where there is no seer and nothing to be seen. Whatever good or bad dreams arise, transform them into non-discrimination. Always generate renunciation towards samsara, generate compassion towards sentient beings, and generate unwavering devotion towards the lama. Up to now, you have recited about a hundred million recitations of Guru Yoga, which is very good. After completing a hundred million recitations, you can submit a practice report. Samsara is an ocean of suffering, there is no opportunity for happiness, so we should go to the Guru's (Padmasambhava's) practice place to practice retreat, which is more meritorious than welcoming guests (591), and we should happily meditate and make this precious human life meaningful. This is written to Pema Chodron. Please send the method of practicing the heart essence. As you said, there is nothing higher than unadulterated awareness. If, because of knowing, conceptual thoughts arise driven by the winds, then as soon as they arise, do not cling to them, let them disappear, and that will be enough. In short, do not like dwelling and do not dislike not dwelling, so you will not make mistakes. Based on dwelling in the self-nature of awareness, if all dwelling and movement do not become confused and non-committal, but are like recognizing oneself, then that is enough. This needs to be distinguished from examining dwelling and movement with focused mindfulness. Written to Jetsun Jangtse Mani Bhadra. (592) Regarding the questions about practice: During recitation, if you meditate by focusing your mind on the deity's form and relaxing your awareness, at first the clarity of the deity's form can be maintained for a while, but in the end, even if you try to recall the clarity from the clarity, it feels difficult to arise. In general, regarding the generation stage, the vidyadhara masters say: Knowing that external appearances are unreal is the illusory generation stage, spontaneously appearing emptiness is the profound generation stage, and having the deity's form and hand gestures is the emanation generation stage. Therefore, if one is an enlightened one who has merged into the dharmadhatu, then there is no need to rely on the generation stage created by conceptual thoughts, and in the naturally accomplished, uncreated generation stage, the naturally appearing, spontaneously perfect state, one can freely accomplish the four kinds of activities. However, if we are beginners, then in the clear (593) appearance of emptiness wisdom, as a means, we should focus on the deity's form appearing clearly, and if it does not appear in this way, then we should think about the meaning of the deity's form.

What will be the result of alternately meditating on pure mindfulness and settling pride? It will perfect the five abilities of shaking, attainment, habituation, stability, and ultimate completion, thereby enabling one to arise as the deity body of perfected mindfulness. Moreover, one should not expect to forcefully achieve this in a day or two, or in a month or two. When the nature of mind matures into the deity body, one will attain the ripening vidyadhara, as stated in numerous tantras and commentaries. Some people nowadays pretend that the generation stage is stable, but this is not true. (594) As soon as it arises slightly, ordinary conceptual thought will vanish. In between, meditate on devotion to the deity. Once devotion becomes stable, one will attain self-mastery. Finally, meditate on the blessings of the deity. Through the power of blessings, transform other appearances. One will encounter the meaning of self-awareness. As it is said, now in the essence of meaning, although many methods of settling the mind through objects of focus, etc., are taught in the lower yogas, we are the Great Perfection view, which has a source for purification. Therefore, meditate as much as possible on the clear appearance of that inexpressible, beyond-mind view arising as the deity body. If you feel tired from this, as mentioned before, settle the mind in pride, and relax without letting the downward-moving wind scatter. Doing that is sufficient. Again, some say they do not recognize the downward-moving wind, which is certainly true. Recognizing the downward-moving wind requires perfecting the ability of vipashyana. In this regard, transform the conceptual thoughts of chasing or not chasing the downward-moving wind, like a ditch under a cave, back to their own place, and try as much as possible to maintain the state of merely knowing, merely being aware of the one in whom the downward-moving wind arises. The downward-moving wind will naturally liberate. In this regard, Xiangdeng Great Being cited the example of throwing a stone at a lion and throwing a stone at a dog, which is very appropriate. Why? Because if you throw a stone at a lion, the lion will put the stone aside and jump at the thrower, so it will never be hit by a stone again. If you throw a stone at a dog, the dog will put the thrower aside and chase the stone, so it will be hit by countless stones. Looking at conceptual thoughts and looking at the one in whom conceptual thoughts arise, the difference between the two is like looking outward and looking inward. (596) Again, some say they do not understand how to directly use the appearances of the six consciousnesses, which is also true. In this regard, the six consciousnesses refer to the five senses and the mental consciousness.
