If it is not through a special lineage instruction to gather the winds and mind into the central channel, then in other non-Dzogchen systems, by effortlessly filling the intermediate wind, the wisdom wind will naturally transform everything. Therefore, the Omniscient Great One also said, "We do not wish to attain enlightenment by controlling the breath of the nostrils. The breath of the nostrils is like the empty cavity of bellows." This is also the meaning of this point. However, when performing the fourfold union of wind control, if, like threading a needle, the flow of wisdom is not infused, but the mind is distracted, then the life wind and others will cause great obstacles, so be mindful. I rejoice in your efforts to practice diligently and perseveringly. Furthermore, for the arising of thoughts and the purification of obscurations, there is nothing more beneficial than devotion to the guru, so without hesitation, regard the root guru and the Great Orgyen as one, and strive in guru yoga. Regarding your practice, the reason why it was difficult to practice in the past is that the ordinary awareness of the present manifests as a fault in practice; the reason why it cannot be connected with bliss is the experience of bliss that has fallen into one corner of calm abiding; the idea of withdrawing the mind into the interior for practice, thinking "This is it," is similar to what later practitioners call "false meditation," etc. All of these (586) are not correct views. Now, it is said that without these, there is no need to force suppression, and naturally there is only awareness, and there is nothing to practice, which is the path of practice without error. Perhaps it can be considered that the single-pointed awareness that slightly controls the karmic wind is it. Because there is nothing to practice, it is easy to generate self-satisfaction, thinking "This non-practice is it," so do not use discrimination to measure the height or lowness of the view, but in all eating, drinking, and walking, maintain a state of non-expression. For the essence of the meaning: the present awareness is separated from the three of arising, ceasing, and abiding, and the view of Dzogchen is originally liberated. Beyond that, a clear, blissful, and comfortable practice, once the idea of "This is it" arises and is judged by discrimination, then it is not the view of Dzogchen (587). In the *Tantra of Clear Light, Lion's Perfect Power*, it says, "Whatever effort without limit is like a blind man seeking the edge of the sky, it cannot be found. For this meaning that cannot be found, who

The ground cannot be transformed. There is no end to this non-elaborate knowable. Thus it was said. At this time, one must recite with reverence, so exert effort in guru yoga in four sessions, and also from the depths of one's heart, have faith in seeing the guru as the Buddha. All suffering, happiness, good and bad, you alone know, with such a transformation of mind, the reverence that you know naturally blazes, the body's hairs stand on end, tears naturally flow, etc., if you do not pray from the depths of your heart, merely reciting with the mouth, then you cannot obtain the infusion of blessings into your continuum (588), so you need to pray like that. Receive the four empowerments. In the state of blending your own mind and the guru's mind without separation, rest in the naturally abiding, unscattered awareness. By doing so, a certain experience of clarity and emptiness, emerges from the sheath of the obscuration of the knowable, which has an inner sore. At the same time as the realization that the elaborations of the four extremes, which cannot be described with words and metaphors, are exhausted in the dharmadhatu, the qualities of the signs of the path arise like a drizzle falling from the sky, so please keep it in mind. Thus it was said. Regarding how to meditate. When awareness is strong and both thoughts are weak, that is the clear appearance. At that time, relax your eyes. Also, sometimes when both awareness and thoughts are weak, that is the experience of non-thought (589). At that time, keep your eyes half-open in space. Exhale. Guard the present moment of awareness. Or, saying that thoughts are like empty shells, without the slightest stain of awareness, is the fault of not having thoughts arise in meditation, but of separating abiding and moving. At that time, the thought that such thoughts are arising is awareness, so instead of following the thoughts that arise, tightly grasp the nature of the thoughts that arise and relax without grasping. In reality, whatever of the above appearances arise, you should diligently meditate on the present moment of awareness that is full of vividness. Without regarding thoughts as faults, and without regarding abiding as a quality, if you abide, then abide in the inexpressible nature of abiding. If you move, then recognize the nature in the moving (590), and rest in naked awareness. Although the appearances of thögal are the special wealth of Dzogchen, joy and tigle continuum
