Mix it without any admixture, and although it becomes unclear for a while, relax the intensity of the object of meditation and the meditator, and by meditating in that way, one becomes proficient in the skill of appearance and emptiness. In general, the unutterable nature of the generation stage, devotion, and compassion is emptiness. All that appears in the generation stage, or manifests in devotion, or arises in compassion, is the clear nature of emptiness. In that state, in the generation stage, radiate and gather light rays; in devotion, receive the four empowerments, Sogdong (532) Badrakpa; in compassion, engage in activities such as longevity prayers, and so on. As an example of the perfection stage alone, cut off the notion that water is water, fire is fire, trees are trees, and sentient beings are sentient beings, and without being scattered on objects, it pervades all without being mixed with anything, so it is said to be all-pervading compassion. If you know the key point that one essence is complete with the three aspects, then all virtuous actions are grasped by the wisdom of non-objectification. If you grasp that, then you know the key points of appearance and emptiness, clarity and emptiness, and awareness and emptiness. Similarly, for devotion, if you constantly and firmly pursue devotion alone, without the admixture of thoughts like ordinary people, the mind will be distracted and you will forget the memory of self-nature purity. If you do not forget the memory of self-nature purity, (533) then non-objective devotion will become the essence of meditation, so it is excellent to take that as the path and meditate, it is a special path that generates all the qualities of goodness. In all the intervals of such meditation, mixing the guru and your own mind inseparably and abiding is the key to the supreme fruit of ultimate devotion. Similarly, for compassion, it is necessary to have the skill of compassion arising without the admixture of the essence of emptiness. If you cultivate compassion itself separately and then expand it with emptiness, that is a mistake. Supreme embodiment of the refuge, king of all, Padmasambhava, lord of the assembly of dakinis, who displays the play of a human being to tame beings, I prostrate to the kind father guru. You who possess the vows of listening and pure vision, in general (534) in the city of the three realms of samsara, there is nothing but karma and suffering, the opportunity to enjoy happiness is very rare, especially for the beings of the three lower realms.

Suffering! Eyes see and heartstrings tremble uncontrollably, Therefore, it is a pity to waste leisure and human form, Bear to abandon like the mind of a fiery-bodied animal. Such numerous occurrences happen one after another, In the impermanent life like a Gandharva city, Do not hold the mind as constant and firm, Take refuge in the Guru and Three Jewels on the crown of your head, Study the essentials of what they say to take and abandon, If you are indeed a person who desires the Dharma from the heart, You should guard against distractions and disturbances as enemies, Do not entrust your livelihood, clothing, food, and talk, Do not spend your life in fantasies, In the preparation of "I will do it," The enemy of death will come by force. It is most important to keep this in mind (page 535). The painful feeling of oppression of "I am practicing," And the abandonment of "no need to practice," etc., Leave all mental fabrications in their own place, By placing it like this, you can see nakedly, The true face of the meaning beyond existence and non-existence. In short, no matter what time or situation, If you do not pay attention to awareness and mindfulness, Calm abiding will never have the opportunity to see its own face. The view and meditation deliberately created by discrimination, No matter how good the essence is, it is still a thought. Therefore, you should cultivate diligence, In the continuous practice of your own uncorrected mind. Specifically, without making any modifications, changes, or fabrications to one's own mind, simply placing the mind in a state of awareness of its own nature, there is nothing more to do than that. Even if you stay like this, if you still can't stop, and various thoughts arise like mist, then, for the thoughts that arise, don't think like ordinary people, "This is this, that is that," don't chase, analyze, or think, but look back at where the riser is, what it looks like. Looking inward in this way, you will find that the thought has neither the source of its initial arising, nor the place where it stays now, nor the place where it will eventually go, so it will naturally dissipate and become empty, rootless and baseless. In short, no matter what kind of thoughts arise, whether it is joy, sorrow, peace, or indifference, you must recognize what is arising and not fall into forgetfulness or loss. Do not make any judgments about joy or sorrow, etc., but settle them on yourself, so that you can gain freedom to abide in the present state. When the power of observation increases, practice will improve. At that time, do not measure yourself by intelligence or aptitude, but stop when appropriate (page 537).
