Like a fathom-long rope, meandering along a path resembling the crawling of a worm, from the visible mountains and landscapes to all the unseen and familiar places, one thinks of going as if a merchant (963) were embarking on a business venture. Gently recite the syllable ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) in accordance with the manner of proceeding. This purifies the habitual tendencies of the place and is necessary to conform to the norms of body and speech. Again, reciting ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum), one thinks of going like a garuda bird to the pure lands such as the Abhirati in the east, thereby arranging the auspicious connection for accomplishing the pure land. For all beings, uniting wind, mind, and ཧཱུྃ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hum) into one-pointedness and focusing on the desired goal is more effective than other methods in stopping conceptual thoughts. This purifies the obscurations of speech and liberates one into the enjoyment body of speech. The third is mind training. As it says in the Ornament of Clear Realization: "Where does the mind first arise? Where does it dwell in the middle? Where does it go in the end? By constantly examining these three, one who trains the mind will know the nature of mind." Therefore, (964) mind training is actual, and it is also how to truthfully prove the state of mind training. First, among the three, one must first examine from where the mind arises and who produces the mind. From the moment the mind exists, from which side of existence or non-existence do the vessel and essence, inner and outer appearances, and emptiness, etc., arise? If it is said to arise from the side of real existence, then one falls into the tenets of the Shravaka school. Therefore, break down the clinging to the truth of appearances, even breaking down the smallest part of a dust particle, and realize it. Examining in this way and searching within the indivisible dust particle, the source of the mind is not found, and although it is known that its nature is not established like a dream. However, if one considers the awareness of the producer, like a dazed, blank awareness, as the root of appearances like mind and mental factors, then like the Madhyamaka-Yogachara, one would wander in seeking the establishment of negation and non-negation. Therefore, look back at the mind of the seeker. Even when looking, if one thinks that the mind is just briefly self-illuminating, or that the various thoughts that arise (965) are ultimate, then it is like claiming expertise in the vast mind-space that is without root or basis, and one has still not directly seen awareness. If one says it arises from the side of emptiness, then the khenpo must also necessarily have shape, color, signs, size, direction, etc., because of seeing

Its own nature must be examined. When examined in this way, the grasping and the grasped, which appear as the place of searching and the searcher, are without place, without support, unspeakable, unthinkable, and inexpressible. If all attachments are abandoned, then in that instant, one is completely open and abides in that state. This is when one comprehends the meaning of the groundless, rootless, unborn Dharmakaya. As the Prasangika Madhyamaka says, "Because I have no assertions, I have no faults." One reaches this state. And the way to reach this state is not like those who today pride themselves on holding this view, who establish it with the wisdom of conceptual thought, but rather it is reached through seeing the meaning of the Dharmata of the self-existing Great Perfection, I say. Second, examine the place and the abider. This mind, if it now arises outwardly, is the external object; if it arises inwardly, it is the internal body. If one examines where it abides in these external, internal, upper, lower, front, back, etc., and if one sees a place of abiding, then the false root of speculation and questioning about its shape, color, function, etc., will disappear. If one does not see it anywhere, either internally or externally, and when one examines the abider, even if the Alaya-vijnana of Kunji slightly appears as self-luminous and truly existent, it is close to the falsity of Cittamātra. Here, the mind has no reason, like writing letters on water, they disappear without a trace in their own place, or like grasping at water when a boat sinks, in the moment of searching for a place, the searcher himself disappears, thus it is determined that the agent of abiding is separated from identification, and this is the meaning of comprehending the unceasing Nirmanakaya. In the present moment, on the three doors (967) such as being pierced by thorns, the signs of feeling arising from the root of perception, wherever they appear, seem to exist there. This is caused by the Skandha of Formation as the cause, by the suddenly arising conceptual thought as the condition, and by the mind clinging to the object of grasping, it ripens as the fruit of the owner. When the object of grasping and the grasped disappears, and the Dharmata is exhausted, even if surrounded by many executioners, there is no fear or anxiety, and this meaning is also understood through this. Third, examine the place of going and the goer. No matter which direction, internal or external, container and contents, appearance and emptiness, existence and non-existence, etc., when one examines the object of going, because one does not find a place to go, the thought of clinging to hope and fear for the result will disappear. If one finds a place to go, one must also know the characteristics of the goer's appearance, etc., therefore, examine.
