When the view of reality and the ultimate realization manifest, and definite understanding arises without doubt, with the love and compassion generated by the mind of enlightenment, and with the profound skillful means that grasp, both virtue and non-virtue become companions on the path. If not grasped by skillful means, then even those that appear virtuous, how can they become the path? Thus, in the Hevajra it is said: Alas! Unpleasant actions, by whatever binds, if with skillful means, then by that very thing, one is liberated from the bonds of existence. Desire fills the world, by desire itself one is liberated. This meditation of reversal, neither the Buddha nor the heretics know. And in the Samputa Tantra it is said: For example, a river full of water, a person wishing to cross gathers and holds onto wood and grass, overcomes and crosses to the other shore, then abandons them and goes in peace. Likewise, relying on dharma and non-dharma, one crosses to the other shore of samsara, and having attained the bliss of enlightenment, completely abandons dharma and non-dharma. And Maitripa said: All virtuous and sinful actions, by knowing them, one is liberated. Afflictions are great wisdom, like fire in the forest, they are the friend of yoga. And in the Sutra Requested by Kashyapa it is said: For example, the impure excrement of people in a city, that is beneficial to a sugarcane field. Likewise, the afflictive excrement of a Bodhisattva, that is beneficial for generating the Buddha's teachings. And Kashyapa, just as poison taken with mantras and medicine cannot kill, Kashyapa, likewise, a Bodhisattva taken with wisdom and skillful means, the poison of his afflictions cannot cause him to fall. And in the Shri Chakrasamvara it is also said: Desire, hatred, and ignorance, these three are by nature poison, if relied upon unequally, then these become poison. If relied upon as nectar, then they become nectar. Thus it is said. That which appears as affliction, when fully grasped by wisdom and profound skillful means, becomes the cause of enlightenment. In the Great Secret Skillful Means Sutra it is said: The merchant, skillful in means, killed the deceitful merchant with a short spear, which is the other shore of discipline.
