Accumulating merit should be done from all aspects of the four objects of gathering and the six perfections. Correspondingly, redeeming lives, circumambulating stupas, making offerings and giving, offering water, rescuing, etc., giving to the elements, offering incense, reciting the Vajrasattva mantra and other special dharanis and mantras, confessing sins, reciting the seven-branch prayer and the Samantabhadra's Prayer of Good Conduct, and reading scriptures, etc., are the ten ways of practicing virtue. If one is wealthy, such as a king, one should, with the good intention of benefiting sentient beings, build statues, scriptures, and stupas as supports for body, speech, and mind, repair damaged places, build bridges and roads, and strive to prohibit indiscriminate logging and overfishing. All of these should directly or indirectly serve the benefit of others. Increasing merit through dedication is the supreme discipline for accomplishing benefit. Twelfth, aspiring to practice the three perfections of patience: May I generate compassion for those who harm me, may I bravely endure hardships for the sake of the Dharma, may I not be afraid of the profound meaning of the Dharma nature, may I have the power to cultivate great patience! Because there is no sin like hatred and anger, one should practice patience. Because the nature of sentient beings is very difficult to tame, they are jealous when rich, contemptuous when poor, and arrogant when equal. They constantly have thoughts and actions of harming others, such as beating, fighting, exposing shortcomings, stealing, and robbing. If one retaliates, one will also become angry and agitated, thereby destroying the accumulated merit of countless eons in an instant, causing great harm to oneself. On the other hand, that person is also controlled by the demon of afflictions, harming others. Not to mention the karmic consequences of the next life, the act of revenge in this life is also due to their ignorance. Therefore, one should generate compassion for them and practice patience. Because patience is the most supreme of all austerities, the Buddha has said that patience is superior to generosity and discipline. Therefore, without abandoning desires, one should not waste the leisure and opportunity of human life by merely eating water and pebbles, or by practicing austerities that mutilate the limbs, but should generate great faith in patience as the king of austerities.

Regarding the patience of not enduring hardship for the sake of Dharma: Having obtained such rare leisure and endowment, At this time when all the causes and conditions for practicing Dharma are complete, No matter how profound and vast the Dharma is practiced, it is a supreme time. One despises oneself and is reserved about Dharma, One becomes discouraged by the asceticism and biographies of the masters. One indulges in sleep, laziness, and trivial matters. One is stingy with generosity, abandons discipline, And is deluded by a mind that destroys diligence, Even if one does a little virtuous deed, one wants to get up as soon as one sits down, As soon as one stands up (534), one wants to sleep, As soon as one eats, one wants to drink, One is tired of virtuous deeds, and as soon as one starts practicing, one wants to finish, With this thought that is faster than an arrow, one becomes lazy, This is not enduring hardship for the sake of Dharma, so one should generate diligence and perseverance, and strive to accept difficulties. Similarly, being afraid of profound meanings, the ignorant cannot distinguish between good and bad, and only understand from the literal meaning, Being afraid of the meaning of emptiness, one clings to the phenomenal aspects, One is obscured by one's own ignorance, yet one grasps at the faults of Dharma and people, etc., Abandoning these, one can bear anything good or bad, and cultivate great patience with the mind of the Great Vehicle. May I be able to do so. Thirteenth, regarding the aspiration for the three aspects of the perfection of diligence: May I generate the armor of joy in vast virtue, Similarly, enter into application with intention, With no discouragement, no distraction, and no sense of satisfaction, May I engage in virtuous diligence day and night. Therefore, one should not be satisfied with just a small amount of virtuous activity, Even for things that are extremely difficult to do and cannot be contained in the mind, Being so lazy in this way is undoubtedly due to the power of having destroyed diligence and relying on laziness in all lifetimes. Just as the helmsman who obtained jewels from the Isle of Jewels, after the ship was wrecked and sank into the sea, the drowning people bailed water left and right wanting to dry up the ocean, and did not become discouraged, I cannot endure even a little bit of Dharma activity, I am diligent and strive in the wrong path, this is all due to the power of bad karma, so for all things that one thinks one cannot do, one should put on the armor of diligence.
