Aspiration for Removing Obstacles: May obstacles to the attainment of enlightenment be removed, May I not be influenced by adverse demonic forces, May conducive conditions such as place, resources, and friends be complete, May all my aspirations be spontaneously fulfilled. There are four types of demons that hinder the path to liberation and the attainment of enlightenment: First, the demon of afflictions, which arises together with one's own mind-stream, prevents the arising of renunciation and does not allow one to accept the Dharma and the Guru. In the middle, one is scolded by virtuous friends and becomes aware of the power of carelessness. Finally, one is deceived by the peace (528) that is disguised as Dharma, and one goes empty-handed at the time of death. The demon of the aggregates clings to the reality of the path of truth and grasps the impure aspects of form, perception, formation, and consciousness, obscuring the nature of reality. The demon of the sons of the gods is attached to relatives and friends and is distracted by wrong livelihood and the qualities of desire. The demon of the Lord of Death destroys the assembly of leisure and opportunity and obstructs the path. May I not be under their control, May the place be pure and secluded from the hustle and bustle, May the livelihood and resources be pure, content, and moderate, May the friends be pure, with great renunciation and learned in the practice of pure conduct, May the vows be pure, not defiled by the faults of the three vows of the Hearers, Bodhisattvas, and Secret Mantras, May the Dharma be pure, with the aspiration for enlightenment and the practice of the six outer perfections and the generation and completion stages, the conduct of Samantabhadra, not hindered by shame and deceit. Sixth, aspiration for taking refuge: ༈ Fearing the suffering of samsara for oneself and others, In the infallible refuge of the Three Jewels, With a single-pointed mind of faith and respect, May I receive the vows of taking refuge. Taking refuge is not merely aimed at the happiness and fruits of gods and humans, but taking refuge with a single-pointed mind of peace for one's own benefit, up to the attainment of supreme enlightenment, is the basis of all vows. Seventh, aspiration for generating the mind of enlightenment: Aspiration for the mind: ༈ All sentient beings who have been kind mothers from beginningless time, Who experience suffering in the six realms, May I generate the great compassion without fabrication, And generate the supreme mind of enlightenment (529). Since beginningless time, all sentient beings have been my parents.

If one does not have certainty about this, one will not understand the complete Bodhicitta. If such understanding arises, it is like one's own parents or beloved being imprisoned in a dungeon, causing great suffering and striving for ways to liberate them. Whether it is the parents of past lives or the present, they are suffering in the dark prison of the six realms of existence. One should generate unbearable compassion, wishing that they may be liberated from this immediately, and that all my efforts may become the means for their liberation. Generating such great compassion is the essence of the sacred Bodhicitta, therefore, aspire to it. Eighth, Entering Bodhicitta: With the mind to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others, wearing the armor of altruism to benefit beings, and properly training in the six perfections, may I enter the conduct of the sons of the Buddhas. Like the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, it is not right to have the thought of aiming for one's own peace and happiness. All aspirations of the path of truth should aim at attaining Buddhahood for the sake of others. Moreover, not out of false pretense and the desire for fame, but wearing the armor of pure altruism, properly training in the six Paramitas is entering the conduct of the sons of the Buddhas, therefore, aspire to attain such. Ninth, Aspiring to the common meaning of aspiration and entry: Ninth, maturing the respective common meanings of aspiration and entry: May I possess the four immeasurables of loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, as well as good intentions, and diligently engage in the four ways of gathering disciples: generosity, kind speech, beneficial action, and consistency. The cause for fulfilling these aspirations is the four immeasurables: loving-kindness without anger towards all sentient beings, thinking of ways to benefit them; and compassion for those who suffer the consequences of their past negative actions, whether in the three lower realms or in the higher realms, who are struggling with food and clothing (530), or suffering from madness, forgetfulness, and other demonic influences, or suffering from diseases such as leprosy and smallpox, or tormented by the king's taxes and punishments, wishing that they may be liberated from this immediately.
