They believe that there are no faults such as these; they believe that if one is doing something excessive, it is sufficient to touch with two fingers; they believe that it is permissible to mix what is suitable and unsuitable times, and that it is permissible to drink even in the afternoon, because if the two are mixed, the suitable time will bless it; they believe that for an old cushion, one does not need the Sugata's span, it is sufficient to patch it with one's own span; they believe that allowing one who has not taken full ordination to be carried into the middle of Khriu village, and allowing them to place the gold taken from the householder on top of it, the gold will become acceptable, and there is no fault. In order to eliminate these views, in the monastery of Kusumapura in Vaishali, seven hundred people gathered, including the four Arhats and Candragupta. The venerable Yasa made a request, and the three pitakas were collected by the Arhat Nirvasa, and the patron was Dharma Ashoka, the righteous king Ashoka. After the righteous king passed away, due to some disputes about dividing the Sangha, it was eventually reduced to four fundamental schools, thereby unifying the teachings. The four schools are: Sarvastivada, Mahasanghika, Sthavira, and Sammatīya. This is known as the Second Council, but it only eliminated the wrongly imposed precepts of the Vinaya. The Third Council is: More than three hundred years after the Buddha's parinirvana, nearly four hundred years, in the Jalandhari region of Kashmir, in the stacked flower garden monastery, five hundred bodhisattvas who had attained dharani, led by Vasumitra, five hundred arhats led by Purnika, and sixty thousand ordinary monks gathered. King Kaniska acted as the patron and requester, and the two leaders of the bodhisattvas and arhats just mentioned compiled it, unifying the eighteen schools into one. Regarding these eighteen schools, it is said in the "Wheel of Reading": The teachings of Shakya Simha will transform into eighteen different forms, due to the power of the previous actions of that guide of beings. At that time, the evil demon transformed into the appearance of a monk, propagated false teachings, and created divisions, causing everything to become impoverished,

Dividing each school and each lineage into their own separate factions, they accuse each other, saying, "Ours is right, yours is wrong," because of differences in views, teachings, and followers. So, where did these originate from in the first place? Gathering these schools together and living in harmony, it was determined, according to the dream prophecy of Kṛkṛi, that this is the Buddha's Dharma and monastic system. Among them, the four root schools within the internal divisions, from which eighteen branched out, are: the Sarvāstivāda school. From it, six schools branched out: the Kāśyapīya school, the Dharmagupta school, the Bhūmihetuka school, the Bahuśruta school, the Kāśāyavasana school, and the Vibhajyavāda school, making a total of seven. These were of the royal lineage, named Sujātadhara, who, if he had not renounced, would have become the king of the Śākyas, but if he had renounced, the Blessed One praised him as the most excellent among those who revered learning, and this is his lineage. The language is Sanskrit, well-refined, and similar to that of the gods of the Thirty-Three. The patchwork robe is made of nine or more pieces of cloth, up to twenty-five, and can be made except for pairs. The symbols are utpala (乌 उत्पལ་,藏文,梵文天城体utpala,梵文罗马拟音utpala,汉语字面意思:乌 उत्पལ་), lotus, jewels, and tree leaves. Separated from the Mahāsāṃghika school are: the Eastern Mountain school, the Western Mountain school, the Snow Mountain school, the Samkrāntivāda school, and the Lokottaravāda school, totaling five. The root abbot of these was ordained from the Brahmin caste, named Great Elder Kāśyapa, whom the Blessed One praised as the most excellent among those with the qualities of learning, and this is his lineage. The language is Prakrit, the language of each region. It is similar to the gods of clear light. The patchwork robe is made of nine or more pieces of cloth, up to twenty-three, and can be made except for pairs. The symbols are the swastika and the drawn auspicious knot. The Sthavira school has: the Sthavira school residing in Jetavana, the Sthavira school residing on Abhayagiri, and the Sthavira school residing in the monastery, totaling three. These were ordained from the reed-maker caste, named Ārya Kātyāyana, whom the Blessed One taught as the best at subduing the border regions, and this is his lineage. The language is Apabhraṃśa, which, due to incorrect pronunciation, is similar to that of meat-eaters. The patchwork robe is made of nine or more pieces of cloth, up to twenty.
