That is the teaching. First, there are five: the abiding nature of the ground of being; from that, the deluded ways of sentient beings; at that time, the abiding nature of clear light; how to practice such abiding through the gateway of the path; and the final culmination of that, the classification of the result. The first is: From the Tantra of Great Auspicious Splendor, "Before enlightened Buddhas arose, before unenlightened sentient beings arose, the self-originated wisdom of awareness did not move from the ground, and abided inseparably with the three unconditioned appearances." Then, the self-knowing wisdom itself spoke of this abiding nature of its own way of dwelling: "Alas! This vast expanse of great appearance is the great, unmoving Dharmakaya, abiding as the great, unconfused Buddha. The essence-body abides without ceasing; the essence is unchanging, the means are clear, unmoving, unwavering, unshifting. All appearances are perfected at once, all wisdoms are perfected in an instant, all bodies abide in maturity, all appearances of light are clear without obscuration. In the appearance of the abiding nature, it is unobscured by the means of appearance. The three—essence, nature, and compassion—are completely perfect without interruption. That is the Great Perfection. That abiding nature of essence also abides like a body, but there is no appearance of a mouth, eyes, or ears. It abides like emptiness, but there is no abiding like inert emptiness. It is a great appearance like the five lights, but there is no separation into colors. It appears without interruption, but there is no abiding like connection. It focuses as if without beginning or end, but there is no abiding in focusing on a direction. It appears as if unstained by parts, but there is no abiding in dividing into categories. It appears without interruption, but does not grasp at categories. Like yellow, qualities are perfected when seen. Like red, awareness is unceasing when it appears. Like green, qualities are perfected when it appears. It abides as the very nature of the five, but does not grasp at colors. It is round but without shape, unceasing but without conditions, without pervasiveness but with great self-radiance, self-luminous but with inner and outer, without effort or accomplishment but spontaneously accomplished. The appearance of compassion is: appearing like emptiness but with unceasing clarity, without elaboration but with great elaboration, unceasing in nature but with great variety and uncertainty, clear but without darkness, unceasing and without greatness, spontaneously empty and completely"

Great manifestation. Completely manifest without mixture. Universally pervasive and united as one. Pure and without cessation of confusion. Perfect and manifest as one. Great compassion abides without interruption. As it is said. The reality of the initial ground is without limitation or bias. Not formed of things and colors. The essence of emptiness, the Dharmakaya, which is not form or shape. The self-radiance of the primordial sound is uninterrupted. The self-luminous Sambhogakaya manifests as the basis for all appearances, yet transcends the characteristics of self-awareness. The compassionate Nirmanakaya, free from names and attachments, abides in the nature of neither samsara nor nirvana. As stated in the Sutras: The realm of beginningless time, is the place of all dharmas. Because of this existence, all beings, attain nirvana. Thus it is said. Therefore, if it is said that it is the basis of both liberation and delusion, and not the realm that has abandoned all defilements, it is not so. From the perspective of opening wisdom, the terms realm, essence, and non-delusion are measured. As stated in the previous Tantra: That is not samsara. It is not nirvana. It is the basis. It is not appearance. It is not darkness. It is the path. There is no going. It is not not going. It is not the result. It is not abandonment. It is not attainment. That is called the great realm of wisdom. Thus it is said. If distinguished, there is a classification that extensively distinguishes the emptiness of both essence and nature, and the opposite of the appearance aspect, this is just that. The way in which sleeping sentient beings are deluded is, from the unchanging essence of that basis, the unceasing energy of nature arises as the appearance of the great spontaneously accomplished base appearance, and Kuntuzangpo (Sanskrit: Samantabhadra, Universal Good) recognizes it as self-appearance. In an instant, the seed of unpredicted ignorance is uprooted from its source. Because it is the initial basis, it is called the great place of initial liberation, characterized by the six qualities of the perfection of the qualities of the realm, it is the perfect spontaneously accomplished ground that has abandoned all defilements. As stated in the Illusion Tantra: In a single instant, distinctions are made. In a single instant, perfect enlightenment is attained. Thus it is said. Ordinary people have not come to know this place of liberation, because they only consider it the initial basis, if that were the case, the basis would not be the place where defilements are reversed.
