At that time, (Ananda) pleaded, "I thought I couldn't find anyone to support me." The Buddha said, "If you do this in the sky now, thinking that the gods will support you, it is because you are too ignorant and have committed a mistake." He also replied, "You showed the hidden private parts to the women in the village, that is your fault." (Ananda) pleaded, "At that time, I hoped that women could be transformed into men." The Buddha said, "It is difficult for women to be transformed into men by their own karma. The hidden private parts of the Tathagata should be hidden and not shown, because you are too ignorant and have committed a mistake." He also replied, "You showed the body like a wiped golden pillar to the people in the village, that is your fault." (Ananda) pleaded, "At that time, I hoped they could see the truth." The Buddha said, "How can those without merit see the truth? Your body has become defiled, because you are too ignorant and have committed a mistake." He also replied, "Because you requested permission for women to be ordained in the Buddha's teachings, that is your fault." (Ananda) pleaded, "Because you raised me after my mother passed away, I thought I was repaying your kindness." The Buddha said, "The perfectly enlightened Buddha can repay kindness in any way, but the teachings will only last for five hundred years, and you only think about making a show, because you are too ignorant and have committed a mistake." He also replied, "When those who are difficult to rely on live in hardship, you said that minor precepts can be relaxed, but until now, I have not asked you to relax the precepts, that is your fault." (Ananda) pleaded, "I was worried that after the Buddha's Nirvana, these monks would sometimes keep the precepts and sometimes indulge, and people would laugh at us, so I didn't ask." The Buddha said, "If it is allowed to transmit the Dharma, what would be the problem? It is because you are too ignorant and have committed a mistake." After saying that, he kicked him with his shoes and drove him away. After that, Ananda went to Spong (location to be determined) to be ordained. He served for a long time, received teachings, and finally attained the fruit of Arhat. After observing the teacher's mind, he urged, "Teacher is like a ship that saves many wanderers, why not manifest the fruit of Arhat?" So, in the first period of day and night, he purified the obstacles in his mind by walking and meditating. At noon, he washed his feet outside the temple. After entering the temple, he laid his right side on the ground. In the interval of arranging the pillow and bed, he attained the fruit of Arhat. Through supernatural observation, he knew that Light Protector (Upagupta) rebuked him with compassion, so he returned to Light Protector.

Having entered the Sangha, there were five hundred Arhats. At that time, because the Teacher had passed into Nirvana, those in the Light Garden and Root Garden, and so on, were saddened and unhappy, so in the northeast of Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajgir, in the Asura Secret Cave, five hundred Arhats gathered for the sake of the first council, and at their urging, Kashyapa asked Ananda if he was happy and appointed him to compile the Sutras. On the Dharma-speaking throne, the robes of the Arhats who had gathered were laid out, and Ananda was instructed to sit on it. At that time, the Great Kashyapa said: Teacher, who intends to benefit the world, of all the Dharmas spoken by the Victorious One, what is the most supreme? May the one with life speak the Sutras. After saying this, Ananda, remembering the qualities of the Teacher, faced the direction of the Bodhi tree, joined his palms, and according to the instructions for correctly compiling the Dharma, began to speak the Sutras with "Thus have I heard, at one time," and finally praised the words spoken by the Blessed One. When the compilation was completed, everyone remembered the Teacher and became sad, especially the knowledgeable Kaundinya, who said: I have directly heard this Dharma teaching, and the ocean of my blood and tears has dried up, I have crossed the mountain of bones, closed the door to the lower realms, and opened the door to liberation in the higher realms, therefore, by speaking this Dharma, I and eighty-four thousand gods have obtained the Dharma eye. Today, hearing these words, alas, everything is impermanent, without difference. Having said this, he descended from his seat and sat down. Likewise, all the others also descended from their seats, their minds turned towards the perception of sorrow. At that time, the Arhats, having looked with their supernormal knowledge, said: Ananda, is this your teaching? He said: This is my teaching. Is this your teaching? They said: It is exactly so. Then, Kashyapa compiled the first Sutra, and since no one opposed it, they thought it was the Dharma. Kashyapa asked Ananda: Where was the second Sutra spoken? It is said that they were compiled sequentially with "Thus have I heard," and so on. Similarly, the Vinaya was compiled by Upali, and the Abhidharma was compiled and arranged by the Great Kashyapa. The twelve branches of scripture were also compiled into the three baskets, so that they would not decline, as it is said in the Minor Matters Sutra.
