It is said that he was the only son separated from the lineage of the Licchavi clan. The king of India had an army of a hundred legions, and his son was born with extraordinary features: eyes so large that they could cover the ground, teeth as white and spiraled as conch shells, and wheel-like patterns in the palms of his hands. Suspecting that he was an emanation of a god or demon, they abandoned him. He went to the top of Lhari Gyangto Mountain and looked down, saying, "The land for houses, the land for fields, the land is auspicious." He possessed the perfect marks of the ten virtues and came to the Yarlung Valley. He wisely surveyed Shampo Gangri and came to Tsangthang Gogzhi via the divine ladder from the top of Lhari Rolpo Mountain. The herders saw him and asked, "Who exactly are you?" He replied, "Tsenpo (King)." When asked where he came from, he pointed to the sky, and people recognized him as a god. They said, "This one will be our lord." So they carried him on their necks and enthroned him as king, hence he was known as Nyatri Tsenpo, the earliest monarch. It is said that the Bonpos came by means of a rope. Thereafter, after twenty-seven generations of kings had passed, Lha Thothori Nyantsen appeared. He built the earliest castle, Yumbu Lagang. At that time, the time had come for the prophecy of the all-knowing one to be fulfilled, and a rain of scriptures fell on the king's palace. Simultaneously, the Za ma tog scripture was carried away by the wind, and a non-human being held it in the sky. During the lifetime of this king, the first auspicious gateway for the flourishing of Dharma in Tibet appeared at the top of the Potala Palace, Yumbu Lagang: the Pangkong Phyagya pa, the golden stupa, the Za ma tog scripture, and the wish-fulfilling jewel-carved bowl fell onto the roof of the palace, and the holy Dharma began. Although they did not know what they were, people regarded them as miracles and named them "Secret Protectors" to worship. The king thus regained his youth and lived to be one hundred and twenty years old. Later, in the Root Tantra of Manjushri (Jampe Dorje Tsagyud), it says: "The place called Lhayul Den, located within the snowy mountains, the king called the god among men, belongs to the Licchavi clan." As the scripture says, Avalokiteśvara took the form of King Songtsen Gampo and was born. Previously, he was known as "The Lamp of the World," as well as "White-Robed Goddess" and "Great White Tara, who strives for the benefit of others." In order to invite the two Jowo Buddha statues, who are no different from the true Buddha, he traveled all over the world.

In the manner of welcoming, he married the wrathful emanation, the Nepalese princess Khri btsun, and the Chinese princess who was non-dual with Tara, and invited the two Jowo Shakyamuni statues. Among the two great scholars, he sent Thumi Sambhota to India, and since Tibet had no script before, he created the method of reading and writing, and composed treatises such as the Thirty Verses. Transforming Tibet into the image of a supine ogress, he transported earth in Lhasa, and the craftsmanship was exquisite, like that of divine creation, hence it was called Lhasa Trulnang Temple. Starting with this, he built temples to suppress the borders and subdue enemies, suppressed the earth enemies, and established the ten virtuous laws. It is recorded in the Kakholma that during the reign of this Dharma king, scholars such as Kusara from India, the Brahmin Shakara, the Nepalese scholar Shila Manju, and the Chinese scholar Hashang Mahayana were invited, and the Tripitaka and many parts of the tantras were translated, initiating the tradition of the Dharma. Although there was no actual teaching and learning, the king himself, in the form of secret Dharma transmission, bestowed the Great Compassion Peaceful and Wrathful teachings to many fortunate ones, and these people practiced them. At that time, it is said that hundreds of matted-haired yogis practicing Great Compassion Yoga appeared in Nyang bran pha wang kha. The teachings given at that time were gathered together and made into three treasures. The accomplished one Drupthob Dondrup, the lord Nyang, and Shakya Od drew them from the treasures, which are now known as the Mani Kabum. Thereafter, in the prophecy of the fifth king Songtsen Gampo, as it was written on the copper plate, it manifested, and Manjushri incarnated as a human being, and Lhachig Trisong Detsen was born. The thick clouds of past aspirations urged the thunder of the sacred Dharma, and the Khenpo Shantarakshita of Zahor was invited. Some were punished with the eightfold penalty. Because he taught the Dharma in accordance with the ten virtues and the eighteen elements, the fierce demons and spirits of Tibet became angry and created various obstacles to obstruct him. Because the connection of past compassion and aspirations had come to fruition, the essence of the speech of all the Sugatas, the Infinite Light born from the lotus, the great master of Oddiyana, non-dual with all the Buddhas.
