It should be done accordingly. Regarding this principle, the qualified scholar Harinatha said: In the past histories of Tibet, the so-called "bestowing empowerment, entrustment, and all subsequent entrustments" is not like an ordinary teacher treating an ordinary disciple, constructing a mandala, gathering empowerment substances, reciting rituals, practicing during the day, bestowing empowerment at night, proclaiming scriptures, explaining the meaning of texts with gestures, and transmitting the lineage teachings. Rather, for that fortunate individual, the Black Pandit, the emanation of the wisdom dakini, merely by entrusting her mind and blessing his mindstream, in that instant, he attained extraordinary wisdom, comprehended all the meanings of the tantras, and merely by granting authorization, he obtained the ability to greatly benefit sentient beings. This is empowerment, the unsurpassed oral instruction and subsequent oral instruction. As exemplified by this, in the biographies of the great accomplished ones of the past, the ways in which they transmitted oral instructions to one another were mostly like this. However, in our Tibet, even with just this slight understanding, it seems that one falls into one of the two extremes. Most of the foolish and those who follow the foolish, pretending to be wise, taking the reason that they have such a rough understanding of the accomplished ones, want to imitate the actions of the accomplished ones even with the current lamas and mediocre old people who have not grasped even a little of the path of Dharma, cutting off the root of empowerment, explanations of tantras, and all oral instructions, placing scriptures on their heads, and only transmitting their minds, etc., and for those who do not understand and are unable, they make pretentious gestures. In this way, the guru does not explain, the disciple does not understand, and the two, guru and disciple, pretend to understand what they do not understand at all, which is the extreme of nihilism. However, those who value tantras and rituals also apply the elaborate rituals performed by beginners today to the noble ones, accomplished ones, and supreme practitioners, which is to become confused by compiling or claiming to be virtuous, which is clinging to the extreme of eternalism. Therefore, beginners need a lineage of teachings that is pure and unbroken, they need rituals and practices that are without error, they need recitation
