Thinking I had some ability, I went to the teacher. I requested to compete with the heretics in abilities, and the teacher agreed as requested, and also informed the king of that country. The king set up a high seat in the center of a gathering of many people, and had the inner and outer schools debate, and the teacher himself was victorious. Then, the heretic instantly drew a large mandala of dust particles in the sky. The teacher entered into the samadhi of the wind of annihilation, and the mandala and the heretics were scattered by the strong wind, going to the other side of a certain river. He made it extremely prosperous, and that place was also known at that time as the place where the heretics were defeated, but due to the power of the times, it is not certain whether that name is still known today, the scholars say. Others say that there were five hundred people holding special views, and thousands of offerings of food, joining the battlefield of great strife and reconciling through miracles, etc., and some enumerate seven wonderful stories. His views and ways of acting are superior to others. Pandit Puti Chandra said, "For the teachings of the Victorious One, he is a great master, although many people have appeared, it is difficult to find someone who acts like the peaceful god and has such cultivation and views." It is just as he said. All those skilled in debate regard him as the jewel on the crown of their heads, and he is one of the six ornaments that make the Jambudvipa beautiful. The great teacher, glorious Dharmakirti, is the teacher who comments on the scriptures. It is said that near the southern ocean, in a place called Kanchinagara, or a variant of the name of the place of Trimalla, which is famous both internally and externally, or in a place called the jewel on the crown of the king in front of scholars, when King Simha V was on the throne, he was born into a sprout family of the Brahmin caste. From a young age, he was very intelligent, and by virtue of the religion of his caste, and the authority of his father, the heretic Kundurananda, he was proficient in all the tenets of the heretics and reached the peak. At that time, the Brahmins especially praised him. He began to lead astray some of the schools that claimed the teacher was the truth, thinking that his own teacher was flawed, and the teachings

Even false remedies became the recognition of faults deviating from the path of liberation. Then, mounting the chariot of faith, he ascended to the guise of a lay devotee. When the Brahmins inquired about the reason for this, he spoke of praiseworthy things, and was expelled from their dwellings. There, in the central region (Ü-Tsang), he took ordination from the master Dharmapala and became skilled in the three pitakas. He could recite five hundred sutras and dharani-mantras from memory. Although he listened to many other treatises on logic, he was not satisfied. From the disciple of the glorious Dignāga, Vasudeva, he heard the Pramāṇasamuccaya once and became equal to the teacher. After hearing it twice, he became equal to Dignāga. The third time, Vasudeva also repeated the erroneous points that Dignāga had not fully understood. The teacher was very pleased and said, "You are equal to Dignāga. Refute all erroneous tenets and also make a commentary on the Pramāṇasamuccaya." He received permission. The mantra master, although having different intentions, considered Devagupta to be reasonable, and therefore received the empowerment correctly from him. By practicing the higher deity, Heruka appeared to him directly. When asked what he desired, he said, "I wish to completely conquer all directions." After saying this, he disappeared with laughter. There, he also continuously composed praises. After a while, in order to completely defeat all the heretics, he wanted to learn the secret words of the tenets of other schools. So, disguised as a servant, he went to all the regions of the south. When asked who was skilled in heretical tenets, they said, "It is the unrivaled competitor, Youthful Play." Earlier Dharma sources considered this to be his uncle, saying that he did not accept young women, etc., and it is said that the orders were not strict. This heretic and the two followers who served the Great God, etc., debated with Buddharakṣita, Guṇarakṣita, and many disciples of Dignāga, degraded them, and seized different dominions and enjoyments. There is such a story. At that time, that Youthful Play had directly obtained dominion from the king, possessing abundant fields of rice, herds of cattle and buffaloes, five hundred male and female servants each, and a retinue that lived on milk and rice porridge, so as his servant.
